Question from eBay member: Are the running board rubbers and fender beading painted over?

Answer: Running board rubbers and fender beading are not painted. The rubber comes from Germany where the previous owner thru VW America located NOS( new old stock) and bought all they had left.

The German VW'S had color coordinated rubber to match body color.  USA versions black only.  Good Question.

Question from eBay member: Does car leak any oil? Can car be driven from Fl to Ca?

Answer: Car does not leak any oil or transaxle fluids at all!  VW's do not leak if properly maintained and built.

In my opinion car could be driven anywhere no problem. My question would be why drive such a spectacular car 3500+ miles . On a trip of that magnitude potential damage from rocks. truck tires. amp; who knows what could happen. I recommend an enclosed truck driven by pro's. This VW is that nice.

Question from eBay member: Has the structural metal (usually rusted areas on most) been replaced?

Answer: Both pans newer. front pan under apron ( spare wheel well) and rear back seat pan( under the rear seat seen from under car above transaxle. Yes you are correct these areas usually are rusted to various degrees. These were replaced by previous owner as part of a high end restoration process. A professional job. can not tell from factory lots of money spent.   All metal epoxy coated (sealed) then 3m truck bed liner the tuff stuff not undercoating or paint that comes off. this stuff is difficult to remove period. This VW is solid!  Thanks

Answer: Car has had it summer maintenance completed consisting of : oil/spin on filter change Castrol 20w/50 All fluids flushed and replaced. brakes/transaxle). Spark plugs replaced . fuel filter. fan belt checked . harging system checked replaced battery new Interstate 60mon. road test /safety check( wipers. tires and pressure) Car needs nothing

Question from eBay member: How does car do in everyday traffic. I live in New York near the city so it's some stop& go and occasional expressway driving?

Answer: Car does nicely in stop& go traffic. as well can easily keep up with traffic on highways. Over the last year car has been driven and tested under similar driving conditions. Engine is 1385 cc with the MSD ignition system. Nos alum. finned valve covers( extra cooling) non crash box transaxle so 1st gear goes in at near dead stop. Makes driving in stop/go much more relaxing. Thanks

Answer: If your asking my opinion it's simple. ask yourself  a couple of questions . do I want to drive my car or not drive car. Original cars usually cost more to own & in the long run. unless you park in the garage and not move . Best advice I've always heard from car collectors is it's only original once but if you want to enjoy and drive car . then buying the best Restored car you can afford is far less expensive than buying a cheaper car to Restore or a fixer upper. Hope this helps

Question from eBay member: I'm not familiar with the MSD ignition system? What is it. how does it work.

Answer: Thanks for the question. The MSD system was recommended for the 63 by certified exotic car technician. The way it works is at lower rpms produces multi sparks per cylinder. higher rpms one powerful spark. Result is better gas mi. increase in performance. little unburned gas diluting engine oil ( major cause of  bearing wear in the air cooled engine) dependable starts. smooth performance.  

System consists of: MSD 6al spark box. ultra low resistance Taylor racing 8mm wires. Modified SVDA distributor with mech. triggers. blaster large capacity coil. Plug in heavy duty cable. All modified to keep stock look. Easy access Battery disconnect switch.

Q : How much would you estimate car would cost to restore today?

A: Good question. I'm taking the box of receipts from previous owner and myself and I would say 25k if you did all work yourself and 35k if done professionally. If you have ever done a ground up restoration then  you know lots of labor . time = cost .

Both my buy now and reserve prices are far less than car could be built Today. My reserve price is set lower than the Buy It Now  Price. What a deal!!  Please be prepared  with your funds in order!
