Not a barn find but a long term running restoration.  I did all the metal work in 2002 replacing just about every available panel and I patched up the woodwork at the same time in order to put it on the road. It was intended to be a running restoration and I had a set of woodwork specially made to the original pattern. This has been preserved. stained and varnished ready to fit since 2006 but I never got around to it. There is also four new tyres ready to fit and two litres of cellulose paint together with all the bits and pieces I have bought over the years for it.  In short: A more or less complete kit of parts to finish the job. It has a 1098 engine. driving the original gearbox. (Which is the best Minor gearbox I have ever known). You actually have to lift the lever over the gate to select reverse.  It has a 3. 9:1 diff. and I changed the instruments to match giving accurate speedo readings. The mileage was re-set to match the original speedo reading at the time. so I believe it to be more or less accurate.  I still have the original parts and these are included in the sale. It also has Marina disc brakes fitted. The semaphore indicators work. and there are also flashing indicators hidden so you don't see them until they are switched on.  The engine came out of a car which had rotted around it. showing 33000 miles on the speedo. and when I removed the head to grind the valves in the general condition would seem to confirm this mileage.  The car has done less than 50 miles since its last MOT. which was in 2010 and it has been kept in a dry lock up ever since.  I took it out last week to check the brakes and the engine had developed a slight rattle. so I fitted a new set of standard big end shells. The crank is in perfect unworn condition.  This has not cured the rattle and I had a similar  thing happen with another Minor in 1996. It turned out that one of the pistons had lost its skirt and was wobbling in the cylinder.  I'm not saying that this is the problem. but it seems most likely to me. OK.  It's a 1954 Split screen Cheese grater Traveller. One of the first Travellers produced. So far as I know there are less than ten known to exist worldwide older than this one. It is taxed. Everything works. but it will need some work before you can drive it any distance. and it comes with all the bits to complete the restoration. So what's it worth?  A similar vehicle was recently advertised on here for £18000.  But that's dealer prices for you.  I'll start it off  low with a sensible reserve of 5000. 00  cash on collection.  This is an excellent investment and you are welcome to view before the auction ends. The usual rules apply. You win. you buy at the agreed price. No arguments.  This one is worth it.
