1987 Chevrolet Caprice Station Wagon. Amazing £££ history useful classic cruiser for sale
Current customer rating:
Hi there. thank you for looking.
Here is a very special automobile which tells more about American family life than a whole trunk full of history books! - A fantastic old American Station Wagon!
This is a Rare car now even in the states and is a highly collectable useful useable classic car. As i'm sure most of you looking will know. these lovely wagons were as luxurious as any Cadillac and capable of towing/pulling just about anything. The reason these are just so rare is the fact that most were literally run-in-to-the-ground by families. they were not bought by people to sit in a garage and be pampered like a Lincoln or Cadillac. or to be taken out on sunny days like a Corvette or a Mustang. They were bought for a reason. whether that be ferrying the kids around. grocery stores. holidays. hunting. towing and as I say. were often abused and unkept until either they died or the demolition derby mobs got hold of them and wringed the very life out of them.
My Chevrolet Caprice Classic Estate Wagon is Finished in metallic blue with the now infamous faux wallpaper vinyl wood sides. She is fitted with a 5. 0 litre 305 "Olds" engine mated to a column auto with overdrive. She has a nice lazy burbley engine note. sounds fantastic. Put the key in the ignition. pump the gas 3-4 times and she fires straight up first time everytime - even in this cold weather!
All chrome/stainless parts are excellent and all badges are present and correct. she has a blue crushed velour interior. The headling is starting to sag above driver. but not bad (just being honest) 3 seats legally in the front. and 3 in the rear and 2 spring up from the boot floor so Seats 8 comfortably with 2 standard over the shoulder belts front driver and passenger and rest spring lap belts.
She has 4 Electric windows (5 if you include the 3-way tailgate. power drivers seat. power door locks. Tailgate opens like a door with the window up/down or drops like a tailgate. original AMFM radio cassette with electric antenna (even syncs with my iphone and ipod via an adapter you can get for £5 amazing!) so sit back and play all your old tunes! Heater was recently over-hauled. gets nice and toasty now. It's really a lovely place to be in the sofa-like seats and shag-pile carpets! The speedometer goes upto 85 mph. but its got upto 85 in the past and just keeps pulling forward. really shifts when shes up there! i'd say 100 mph is not out of reach but this isn't a sports car. shes a cruiser! and people just love it both passengers and other motorists.
Thick history file. infact. its unbelievable. every bill. tax reminder. tax disc. MOT certificate is there. (see pictures) since 2000 the bills total to just under £16. 00. You will see. in 2010 she underwent a lot of bodywork and a respray by the previous owner. which has helped preserve her. that bill alone came to £3900. Recent bills in last 4 months totalling nearly £1500 for service and rectifying 2 MOT advisories. the list goes on! the last owner even kept the only time he had to call the AA out due to a flat battery in 2009. Now what's Interesting is that she belonged to a rock band for 12 years. and during that time was really lovingly cherished as per the amount of bills and upkeep lavished on her. she even went on to appear in Levi jean's catalogues and recently (see pictures) reviewed for a write up in a well known Car Magazine yet to be published. Both the writer and cameraman were really impressed with her. remarking at how long it took to do shots. (they were with me from 10 am until 4 pm setting up and doing various shots) and said classic cars really show there true colours i. e reliability and temperatures running high while sat around. being moved. driving action shots etc. and the Chevy took it all in her stride. temperature stayed at 'normal' starting first time. idling so smooth and driving at low/high speeds so well. A real compliment.
I'm not saying you should trade in your family Vauxhall Zafira and buy this. as to be fair its come this far and survived so well that it really needs someone who will continue to love her. Easy parts availability as she is a Chevrolet (part of the GM group) and known as a 'B body'. (Body by Coach builders Fisher) so Oldsmobile. Buick and Pontiac parts all fit. I have many spares to go with car. - lights. tail lights. glovebox. door cards. rubbers. horn. spare roofrack. etc spare set of 4 excellent wheel trims. (these are the 2 nd set you see in the photos so that winter doesn't ruin the chrome/stainless wire spoke ones!) huge file full of history and two sets of keys.
Area's of improvement. Cruise doesn't work. and Air conditioning belts have been removed. This was like it when I got her. hasn't bothered me so never wished to rectify them. and rear bumper has a tiny rust hole near number plate. Have been looking for another but seem to be a common problem. A repair and rechrome for this is not expensive. a tiny bit of rust to the inner wing on uon opening the drivers door. again superficial and just being honest. just have concentrated on 1 thing at a time and never got round to it. Remember. while in above excellent condition. she is nearly 28 years old!
Viewing is welcomed. but genuine interest people only - First to see will buy cash is fine. or bank transfer. if you want to pay via Paypal. is also ok. but you have to accept paying the fee's incurred from doing it that way your choice. Genuine reason for sale: Illness forces this much regretted sale as I really thought I would own her for along long time. Same with my Mustang. also listed!
Thankyou if you're still reading. Best wishes.
JUST TAXED TODAY for 6 months 1 st December. MOT'd until June 2014.
Usual ebay rules apply. But no tyre kickers. messers. scammers. weirdo's from Nigeria wanting to send me a cheque for £50. 00 and I refund them the difference and send them the car and money and V 5 signed to Southampton docks. move along. go find another numpty!
Also. - DON'T EXPECT THIS 28 YRO CAR TO MATCH THE QUALITY OF YOUR YEAR OLD RANGE ROVER. YOU MAY NOT ONLY BE A PRATT. BUT SOMEWHAT DISSAPOINTED. PLUS WHICH. IF YOU BUY THIS CAR MAKE SURE YOU'VE CLEARED IT WITH YOUR MISSUS FIRST - I DON'T SUFFER FOOLS GLADLY. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
