Description

This classic Ford V 8 has been subject to a full restoration to an exceptionally high standard and it is one of the best classic cars we have ever had the privilege to offer for sale.

It is an original RHD car built for the UK market and as such is extremely rare.

The car was registered new in July 1937 and still retains it's original transferable registration number GMH 667. Although this number has a large value itself. we hope that the buyer retains the number on the car as to remove it would be a sacrilege.

The history file contains an original buff log book showing the ownership history of four owners from January 1946 through to April 1975. A second later V 5 shows that the car was owned by a film production company from prior to 1983 until August 1994.

During this period. in 1993. the car appeared in an episode of the TV series "Agatha Christie's Poirot" and a photograph of this can be seen on the Internet Movie Cars Database site which can be found at www. imcdb. org/vehicle_240815-Ford-V 8-78-1937. html

In August 1994 it was bought by an enthusiast who planned on restoring it but he unfortunately died before commencing the work. His widow sold the car in 2001 to a friend of his who had restored a number classic cars previously on the condition that this friend undertook the restoration of the Ford that her husband had planned.

This gentleman then embarked on a ten year total restoration of the Ford to a standard that can only be described as exceptional.

The history file is filled with invoices that add up to over £19000 for the work and parts that the car received.

The car was stripped to a shell and totally refurbished with new metal throughout and refinished with one coat of anti-corrosive primer. four coats of two-pack primer and three coats of two-pack colour by a professional classic car restoration specialist. It was then rebuilt from the ground up with the documentation file containing a series of photographs showing the process.

The original engine was fully reconditioned and converted to run on unleaded fuel and the electrical system converted to 12 volts apart from the dash instuments that still run 6 volts with the clever use of a voltage reducer.

Removable front and rear indicators to make the car safer for use on today's roads have been fitted to brackets on the bumpers although the original semaphores are still present.

The seats were recovered with the correct original Bedford cord pattern material and a professionally made carpet set was fitted. Numerous invoices for rubbers. scuff plates. grommets. clips. gaskets. cables. handles and many other ancillary items are included in the documentation file.

A new set of genuine whitewall tyres were obtained from Longstone Tyres at a cost of £566.

Since completion in 2011 the car has only been driven on a few dry days and has spent the rest of the time in a warm and dry garage.

Although the car is now MOT exempt as it was manufactured prior to 1960 it has recently passed an MOT which now runs until June 2014 and the current Free Historic Road Tax until the end of November 2013 is on the windscreen.

This car a credit to the gentleman who painstakingly rebuilt it to such a wonderful standard and is now only for sale due to lack of use.
