The year was 1948. World War II was over and people were
beginning to get back into their normal routines when Ford
introduced its first truly new pickup since the war began.

Advertised as a Bonus Built truck. it was named F-1. the first Ford
truck to wear the F designation. Two L-head engines were available
for the new light duty trucks. The 7 H version of Ford's 226 cubic
inch. six cylinder engine. which was used in the 1947 passenger
cars. was rated at 95 horsepower at 3300 rpm. For an additional
charge. buyers could opt for the 239 cubic inch. V-8 engine that
gave 100 horsepower at 3. 00 rpm. A three-speed gearbox with a floor
gear change was standard in the F-1 with heavy duty three and four
speeds gearboxes available as extra cost options.

This 1949 Ford F 1 Pick-Up was restored and customised about ten
years ago in the USA. imported to the UK in 2013 where it was taken
to the American Car Centre in Franham. They then checked all the
mechanics. re-raised the suspension and fitted a new Ford Windsor
351 cubic inch. 5. 00 cc. V 8 engine with Holly carburettor and
Edelbrock inlet manifold. air cleaner and rocker covers. br/>transferring the power onto the road through a new C 4 automatic
gearbox. This custom Ford Pick-Up is finished in matt black with a
plush maroon valor bench seat. maroon painted cabin. maroon carpets
and the pick-up deck finished in wood. The F 1 is supplied with a
V 5 C registration document. a copy of the original US title and is
ready to use with road tax until January 2015. This is a favorite
with the customisers to build into the ultimate street rod.
