1970 Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird 70 Roadrunner Mopar 440 Superbird Wing Car for sale
Current customer rating: (685 votes ) based on1970 Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird. #1152 of 1920 produced. RM23U0A168738. The car drives well. after bringing it back to life in 2010.
Factory 440 4bbl. nbsp;727 Column Shift Automatic. Bench Seat. nbsp;AM Radio. 3. 55:1 Posi and Road Wheels. this Bird also has it's Data plate and Build Sheet.
This Bird has spent it's life in the Detroit metropolitan area since produced on December 4th of 1969. Original Vitamin C (EK2) car. the custom body and paint work was completed in 1982 and was put into storage. The Bird was not driven after the custom work was completed. The car remained in storage until 2007. when I purchased the car. The Bird has had the nose welded to the fenders and an air grabber center section added to the Bird hood. The custom paint appears to be Vitamin C. with a bluish purple over the hood. 1/4's and wing. nbsp;with a pearlized clearcoat overall. The paint has survived incredibly well throughout the years.
The nose appears to have not been damaged in collisions throughout the years and is a clean nose. It does not have the typical rot throughout the bottom like most Birds. The headlights open freely and close together.
The Bird had been hit in the right rear corner in 1978. The tail panel is still tweaked as can be seen in the photos. Both lower 1/4's had been repair prior to the custom paint. The trunk extensions. trunk floor. wheel houses. floor pan and frame rails are very clean. Please look at photos for documentation.
The dashboard was modified during the 70's for custom speakers. The rear deck had been modified for speakers. The fender scoops were drilled for turn signal indicators. The air grabber section was added to the hood. though the switch. solenoid. canister and noses were not added and are not part of this car. Both jacks were missing and are not provided with the Bird.
This Bird is very clean and complete. The temporary patch on the drivers side floor was installed in 2010 and in bonded to the floor with a panel bonding adhesive (3M- 8115). The interior is original and the seats are in good condition. The drivers side of the bench seat does have a tear about 8" long on the center seam. Dash is complete and the pad is uncracked. The dash has the clock option. AM radio equipped that works great. The original carpet was removed to allow access to document the floor. The carpet survived well and comes with the car. Typical wear on the carpet. with a production date of 10-22-69 and produced by the Aikman Company.
The engine was replaced in 1978 with a 1969 383 H. P. engine. The 383 runs well and hold great oil pressure. The original engine did not come with the car and it's whereabouts is unknown. The transmission is the numbers matching unit and works well. The radiator is the original unit and it's part number is 2998956. The carburetor is not original and is the 383 H. P. carb for 1969 S4682. The fuel. brake. exhaust and ignition systems were rebuilt or upgraded to bring the Bird back to life. The exhaust manifolds and the forward H pipe are original. The rotors have never been removed and were turned (machined) on the car with an on-the-car brake lathe. Rear drums were turned enough to clean up the surface.
The items that were replaced were:
Fuel System - Fuel Tank. Rubber Fuel Lines. Fuel Pump. Fuel Filter. Pump to Carb Fuel Line and a Carb Rebuild Kit
Brake System - Master Cylinder. Brake Lines. Brake Hoses. Calipers. Brake Pads. Wheel Cylinders. Brake Shoes. Self Adjusters. Hardware and Silicon Brake Fluid
Ignition System - Engine Harness. Electronic Ignition Box. Ballast Resistor. Distributor and Spark Plugs
Cooling System - Upper and Lower Radiator Hoses and Heater Hoses
Exhaust System - Reproduction Mufflers. nbsp; Tailpipes. Hangers and Tips
Tires. Battery. Oil and Filter. Coolant. Transmission Pan Gasket and Transmission Fluid.
I have only driven the car about 10 miles since bringing it back to life. The car runs and drives well and has no known drivability issues.
