1949 Cadillac Series 61 Sedanette

Desirable body style

Extensive restoration

Fabulous Post-War styling

Here up for bids is this beautiful 1949 Cadillac Series 61 Club Coupe.   For some of you. this is a car that needs no introduction.   Cadillac debuted its 1949 models to rave reviews thanks in part to its newly designed engine. the OHV 331.   Tom McCahill reported in Mechanix Illustrated that "With this engine. Cadillac. despite its large size. out-performs just about every car being made. "  That same year. Motor Trend magazine bestowed its first ever "Car of the Year" award to the '49 Cadillac.   Currently. The Milestone Car Society has recognized this vehicle as a Certified Milestone Car.   All accolades aside. the '49 Cad Sedanette is just one of those cars where everything came together perfectly. and probably one of our best post-war automotive designs.

This car was the subject of a comprehensive restoration and features a rebuilt motor and transmission. all new interior. extensive chrome work. and a wheel-tire combo from Coker that really finishes it off.

Click to enlarge any of the photos below. a link to a slideshow of all the enlarged images is available to view at the bottom of the page.

Finished in "Madeira Maroon". the car presents very well.   The paint is of good quality but does have some small chips here and there. indicative of a car that has been driven.   So while not quite ready for the lawn at Pebble Beach. this sedanette still looks pretty sharp.

Both front and rear bumpers have been rechromed and look terrific.   The grill is unrestored. there is some light tarnishing and a small dent on the passenger side.   All of the stainless trim on the car is in good condition.   All lights and signals work correctly.   Tires are BF Goodrich Silvertown radials from Coker. along with the 48 spoke wire wheels and center caps. all 4 sets are in as-new condition.

There's a reason these cars are so well loved - there's no shortage of beautiful details to admire.
The gas filler hinge assembly works smoothly and clicks down securely.

Nice looking hood mascot and emblems front and rear.

All of the car's glass are the original "High-Test Safety" pieces.   There is a chip up top on the windshield and the rest of the glass have some age related flaws such as fogging and light scratches. the glass is probably the weakest point of this car.   The car has all new rubber window seals. including the wing windows.   The side windows have new felt sweeps and relined window guides.   All  weatherstripping on the car is new (door. hood. trunk. etc) - every piece.   The trunk has been refinished and is nice as the rest of the car.

The interior has been completely redone. from the carpet to the headliner.   The car has an all new wiring harness from front to rear. cloth-bound like the original.

Back seat is in excellent conditon as well as the door panels.   The wood veneer has a few imperfections in spots. namely around the radio.   The doors have good fit and close precisely. all windows wind smoothly.   All garnish moldings have been redone and look great.

Nice steering wheel with no cracks.   All gauges are functioning and show good readings.   The odometer has stopped working. and the horn is in-op.   Clock works but the adjustment knob doesn't.   The radio and vacuum powered antenna work correctly.

The motor and transmission have been rebuilt. this Cadillac runs and drives as good as it looks.   The V8 has plenty of power on tap. the transmission shifts great and the car runs cool.   It rides down the road like a Cadillac should. tracks straight and brakes well.

All external components have been rebuilt - carburetor. generator. fuel pump. etc.

Stainless hardware was used for all external fasteners.   The raised sections of the valve covers were hand pinstriped.

The undercarriage of this Cadillac is super solid with no rust issues anywhere. not even pinholes.   No signs of accident history. just a great example of a 64 year old automotive icon.
