1965 VW Volkswagen Bug Beetle 113 Sunroof Sedan Restored Resto Cal Look for sale
Current customer rating: (498 votes ) based onHello. this auction is for a completely restored 1965 VW Bug. I built this car in 2005 for my wife to drive. since it has been driven 13. 00 miles. It was a pan up restoration of a completely rust free 2 owner black plate California car. When I bought the car in 2000 it had been stored in a garage since 1981. The car has never had any patch panels or rust repair. All of the modifications to this car were done to make it a nicer driving vehicle. I have taken several small trips in the car and it drives excellent. Since I have done so much work to this car I will break it up into categories:
Chassis: The floor pan was stripped of everything. sandblasted and painted satin black. The clutch cable tube in the tunnel was re-welded (they tend to break. and will cause a lot of grief if they have not been fixed correctly) and all new cables and grommets were installed. All of the suspension was completely rebuilt and converted to adjustable. The front is a German beam that has been modified with adjusters and the rear has had sway-a-way adjustable spring plates installed. If you do not like the lowered look of this car raising it is as simple as using an Alan wrench. For improved handling a CB performance camber compensator and larger front sway bar was installed. The brakes were completely rebuilt and studs were added to the wheels (I hate the bolts). At the time of restoration new tie rod ends. link pins. kingpins. shocks. and bushings were installed. The car currently has EMPI 5 spoke wheels. however I do still have all 5 stock wheels from this car. If the winning bidder would like the stock wheels I will include them in the auction for no additional charge.
Transaxle: The transmission is a stock rebuilt 1967 12 volt unit. It has the stock 4. 12:1 ring and pinion. It is installed with German 1 piece axle boots (the split ones always leak) and original 1965 short axles.
Engine: The engine in this car is a 1776 single port. It started with a very nice 1974 German AS41 engine case. The motor is assembled with stock crankshaft. camshaft. and Mahle pistons and cylinders. The heads were NOS Brazilian 040 castings that were ported according to Bill Fishers 1971 book on how to hotrod your VW engine. Compression is set at 7. 50:1. and the engine has been modified with a full flow oil filter system. Gene Berg stainless steel Teflon lines were installed on the oil filter for the ultimate in reliability. Externally the engine is dressed in all German cooling tin. Everything is intact including the thermostat cooling flaps that almost everyone leaves out. The fan shroud is a German doghouse that has been modified to accept a Type 4 oil cooler. Even on a 100+ degree valley day oil temperature will not get above 200 degrees. For accessories the engine has a Bosch alternator. Bocar 30/31 PICT carburetor. Bocar fuel pump. and an NOS German Lange muffler. The engine and accessories have about 5. 00 miles on them.
Body: As I stated earlier this started out as a two owner rust free California car. Overall the body is in very nice condition; all four fenders are original German as are both front and rear aprons. The car has never been hit in the front and its original apron is in nice condition. The rear apron on this car was damaged when I got it so I bought a perfect replacement off another car. It was professionally installed and aside from a small weld seam in the rear fender well you cannot notice it. The body is finished in PPG single stage VW L11 pastel green.
Sunroof: This car is equipped with a factory sliding metal sunroof. It has been completely rebuilt with all new West Coast metric slides and guides. The reproduction cables they sell for these do not work. I was lucky enough to find a set of NOS VW cables which are currently installed in the car. The sunroof works as the factory intended it to.
Interior: The entire inside is done in TMI reproduction upholstery. The seats are gray basket weave and the door panels are vintage style two tone.
Trades: As with anything that I have for sale I would entertain a full or part trade for another vehicle. No pick ups motorcycles or cars newer then the 1970's.
Payment and Shipping: A $500 Paypal deposit is due within 48 hours of auction close. The remainder of the balance can be paid upon pickup of the car. I will be happy to work with you on shipping but I will need the car picked up within 2 weeks of the end of auction. You will not find a nicer running driving VW then this car. When I built this car it was my intention to make the nicest daily drivable car that I could. You will not be disappointed. If you have any questions or if you would like to come and see the car please call (559)-313-1454. Thanks Jeff
