1947 STANDARD VANGUARD TRIUMPH 8-4 DROP-HEAD COUPE for sale
1947 BRITISH STANDARD VANGUARD 8-4 'DROP-HEAD' COUPE/CONVERTIBLE. (TRIUMPH TR SERIES PREDECESSOR). flat-head 4-cylinder engine. 4-speed manual transmission. 5. 25 X 16" bias-ply tires(need replaced). If you are looking for a very rare. unique and desirable post-war British sports car that will be the only one in town. this car may be for you. The car has recently been rescued from long-time warehouse storage in southern California. It starts. runs. drives and stops (manual brakes). but needs some skilled TLC to be fully road-worthy. From our inspection. all structural wood. wood floorboard and sheetmetal are free of rot. rust-out or other visible damage. The interior features center-mounted gauges. crank-out windshield. front bucket seats and rear full-width bench seat. The soft top is a non-stock dark-red snakeskin material and all hardware appears to be in place.
Please feel free to call me with any questions -- Darrell (816) 812-1965. Vehicle is being sold 'as-is/how-is' with no warranty expressed or implied. I suggest you come see this unique little car in person or hire an inspector to examine the vehicle befor you bid.On Jan-01-14 at 16:17:31 PST. seller added the following information:
As you can see from the photos. this car would benefit from a full restoration as the interior. top mechanical and paint work are all well aged. When we had the engine running. we could not detect any smoke. knocks or unusual noises. so the engine appears to be sound. as is the transmission. though we've not run it through all of the gears since we didn't get it out on the road with no license on the car. Again. we suggest you come assess the car in person. or hire an independent inspector to evaluate the car for you.On Jan-02-14 at 10:11:00 PST. seller added the following information:
Due to the high level of questions I'm receiving. I have posted additional photos of the car including undercarriage. door jambs. top & side curtains. etc. As you will see. this is a very complete car with no rust. rot or damage beyond the deterioration caused by long-time storage. It appears someone even oiled the wood floorboards before storage to prevent rot and/or insect or varmit damage. Many spare parts are included (and photographed) with the car. The VIN is the engine serial number stamped on the right-side of the engine. There are two additional small data plates on the left. top of the cowl that read as follows. H. 388 and 34538. They are pictured as well. Again. I encourage anyone interested in purchasing this car to come to the Kansas City area to our shop to inspect the car. or hire an independent inspector. Feel free to call me.
