Selling my rally car, due to not using it in the last 10 years. Someone with great enthusiasm in the 1990's has spent a fortune building this to works spec to compete at the time in the MSA International rally championship. They took a car which already had rally history and rebuilt it I would imagine with no expense spared. Scrutineers tags still exist for Manx international rally and Rally of Donegal. Pics on internet of it competing in other rally's such as the Bulldog in Wales. Thereafter competed in Monte Carlo historique in 2005 and 2006. Has not been used competitively since 2008 – last time by me in a Hill Climb – after which I had the engine rebuilt and since then has languished in my garage.

Has all the proper saab and rally spec modifications such as bracing around suspension points; additional aluminium wheel arch liners, strengthened wishbones; ball joints altered for correct suspension set up; stronger saab 95 V4 axle; uprated oil V6 oil pump, baffled sump; sump guard; v6 pistons; uprated camshaft; additional engine/ gearbox mounts; engine external oil cooler; new helix four paddle clutch; seriously lightened flywheel (remade at engine rebuild); trip meter; nice original well worn sport steering wheel; lightened doors, lightened bumpers; fibreglass boot lid; approved roll cage; firewall between tanks and car; spotlights; plumbed in fire extinguishers; fly off hand brake, twin facet red top fuel pumps, rare original minilite alloys

1800 longstroke circa 150bhp., stainless sport and rally exhaust, Bilstein progressive suspension set up for forest. Spec 1.5 gearbox with LSD. Twin fuel tanks second presumably added for the Montecarlo. Currently runs a rare original works spec saab “Moosehorn” inlet matched to twin weber 45's

Comes with FIA passport and MSA passport which have not been updated in years. A cheap but potentially competitive way into class 1 historic rallying. Car is registered 1967 which gets it into Historic 1 class, rather than in class 2 with Mk2 Escorts.

This car would make an interesting show car, in that it retains a lot of features from when it was updated in the 1990's – which is now over 20 years ago. It is not concours, far from it – this is a car that has been built to be played with, and clearly from the dings and dents underneath, different colour panels, it has been put to full competitive use. That said I have recently had the four wings off, and repaired a couple of areas of minor corrosion. The shell remains very strong, without significant corrosion.

It has not been used in years, so do not expect to just jump in it and compete, it will need fettling, extinguishers updated. Seats and belts are now well out of date. Recently had a compression test 190 psi on three cylinders and 185 psi on the fourth; oil gauge shows good oil pressure. Engine while rebuilt perhaps nine or ten years ago is unlikely to have done more than 500 miles. Engine rebuild meant new oil pump, forged essex v6 pistons, piper rally camshaft, big valve heads, new clutch, strengthened cam covers, silicon gaskets,

I see other purported saab V4 rally cars for sale, at a higher price, but clearly not done to works spec, more perhaps for fast road, or “made to look like a rally car” – this is as close as you will get to the real thing.

A full spares package can be agreed separately by negotiation. Spares package could include spare unused spec 1.5 gearbox with LSD, 6 additional minilite alloys, set of steel wheels for snow, roof cut in case you decide to be Eric Carlsson, spare standard engine (useful in case need different profile camshaft, etc); cross flow sport and rally manifold, fast road weber cam with manifold, cibie spots.
