1967 Alfa Romeo Spider 1600 Duetto RHD Restoration Project.Spider 1600 Duettos are very beautiful motor cars with their elegant and simple Pininfarina coachwork, and they are great fun and delicate to drive on their 15” wheels and narrow tyres. The factory only made 380 with right hand drive steering and survivors are rare, and therefore this example would make a very rewarding restoration project.I acquired this very rare Spider Duetto in August 2013 knowing it needed a complete restoration, and after driving it for about twenty miles (it had an MOT at the time) I placed it in dry barn storage where it has remained.  The engine was last started in around early 2014 and no attempts have or will be made to start it prior to sale.  The engine fitted is a later Alfetta 1600 engine of the same capacity the Spider would have had when new (1570 cc), and I would suggest a correct series engine is found and installed during the restoration.According to the Alfa Romeo Museum Archives this very rare right hand drive Spider Duetto was manufactured on May 16th 1967 and its original colours were white with a black vinyl interior (just as it is now) and it was first registered for road use in England on August 1st 1967.  I urge anyone restoring the car to retain these classis colours and not ruin such a rare car by painting it a non-original colour (e.g. red!).  Cars always look better in their original colours, whatever they are.I fortunately obtained a DVLA ownership report that details the history of the car during its various owners around the south of England, and interestingly for football fans (not me!) the car was purchased in May 1974 by a Peter Philip Bonetti of Banstead in Surrey, believed to be the Mr Bonetti who was a Chelsea Football Club goalkeeper in the 1960's and 70's. However, I imagine due to his imminent transfer to the St. Louis Stars of St. Louis, Missouri, USA, ownership passed to a Brian Tugwell of Storrington, West Sussex, in September 1974.In May 1985 the Spider was acquired by someone in Brighton (and later Sunbury-on-Thames in Surrey) who was to own the car for the next 28 years, during which he had it registered as PWS 17. After a couple of years of not using the car he sold it in March 2013 to a new owner in Bude, Cornwall.  Their intention was to carry out a restoration of the car but due to a house renovation this never happened and I acquired it from him (without seeing it) in August 2013 and the car has been in my dry storage barn since. Please be aware that this Duetto requires a full restoration. I believe that other than the change of engine the car is pretty much complete, and due to the excellent availability of new spare parts its restoration should be straightforward.  The folding roof is in surprisingly good condition and I don't feel it would need to be changed during the restoration.  As a minimum the car is going to require front and rear floor pans, sills, front and rear valences, boot lid repair section / replacement, door repair sections / replacement, front and rear wing lower repair panels, radiator crossmember, bonnet repair / replacement, repairs to the upper wing panels, A-pillar repair / replacement, new seat foams and covers, new floor mats, dashboard top repair/replacement, folding roof rubber seals, etc.  This list is not exhaustive. The car comes with a history file containing a few old maintenance invoices and expired MOT certificates, and also the DVLA V888 ownership report previously mentioned.  Importantly, the car also comes with an Alfa Romeo Classiche Certificato di Origine which is the official production record from the Alfa Romeo archives.  I have a V5C in my name.Viewings prior to the end of the auction are unfortunately not possible due to the distance between where I live and the location of the car (near Newbury in Berkshire), but I have many detailed photographs I can provide instead.  If you have in mind that everything on the car will require attention then you shouldn't go wrong!  Please do not message asking what the "Buy it now price" is and please only bid to buy; payment in full (or a significant part-payment) will be required before I drive hours to where the car is stored for it to be collected.  Thank you in advance for your understanding.
