My late mother bought this car in 1986 from its original owner in St. Austell, Cornwall. At the time it had covered 64,690 miles and she drove it quite sedately until the late 1990's when she decided to give up driving at the age of 90.The car has never been in an accident, and certainly never raced or rallied !. Why did she buy a 16v car ?. Because she liked the chocolate brown colour....!.There can not be another Dolomite Sprint with such provenance !.A new full engine was fitted in October 1992 solely because of a jack-shaft problem.....not a refurbished one but a brand new unit from Rimmer, who bought up all the factory stock when Triumph closed down. The engine change was at 93,000 miles and so has just 30,000 miles on it. Total mileage of the car is now 123,000 miles and rising occasionally.Everything works as it should, including the over-drive which was replaced by a new unit and one of the last factory ( Laycock and Brown ? ) units available. The overdrive unit provides a smooth operation. The solenoid was also replaced with a new unit at the same time in 1992.Neither the new engine has, nor the original suffered any overheating conditions while in our possession. It sports a twin-box quiet-tone stainless steel exhaust system. The interior tan trim is almost unmarked and original, though the exterior does need the respective attention etc. as you can see in the photographs. The Unipart long wave / medium wave radio is not operative at this time unfortunately. There are no cutouts for extra speakers etc.The car did not come with a tow-bar and in our possession has never towed anything. The underside ( and in other suggested areas as set out in the Finnegan's guide of the time ) was waxoyl-ed in 1986 with subsequent treatments since and appears to have protected it well. Also included are of course the original engine ( turns freely ) with head assembly and accumulated spares including one of the last factory front sub-frames ( not sold separately ) . The spare sub-frame has the brackets. I believe this is the Sprint sub-frame which may or may not differ in slight dimension from the regular dolomite sub-frame.I believe the replacement engine from Rimmer is a high-compression unit according to the instructions of Rimmer sent with the new unit who only supplied H units according to the notes on the instructions.Original engine condition: turns freely and the 3 pistons to the front hold oil for a lengthy time; all pistons appear to have no lateral movement when pressed .The fourth piston right at the back of the engine will let oil drain a slightly faster than the others. The engine with sump of oil and the timing chain in situ thus as the unit was removed. The head looks mostly complete with camshaft and as it was removed .The engine block has been sitting covered on a pallet and been turned regularly since the early 1990's.It ran well until the jackshaft problem was diagnosed. Also included is the radiator which never leaked and remains in very good condition I believe.I'm not a mechanic so just as I observe and in my opinion .It has been garaged since purchased. Two sets of keys.Unleaded fuel was introduced in 1989 I think. There is an inline Fuel Max Saver located just after the fuel pump which would have been installed back then. Thus there was no need to use the lead replacement petrol ( LRP ).The vehicle has been run on 4star fuel as recommended .So Shell V-Power etc. and previously Shell Optimax.Because of its age the car does not require an MOT. The last MOT was carried out in 2005.It received new front pads and caliper pistons with boots a few years ago and later new rear shoes and wheel cylinders. It has copper brake lines. The handbrake needs attention and the front sill jacking points need some welding. With this in mind, I have not put too high a reserve price on it.There can be no rush to collect this vehicle; the garage space is not needed and the vehicle will remain insured. There is adequate space for a small car transporter for turning and loading etc. at my locale. This vehicle has been relisted. The successful bidder apparently had a severe accident that needed hospitalisation thus health considerations. The bidder made a deposit for the vehicle which I have returned.I will not be cancelling bids.I will let the auction run its length of 10 days.I shall be sorry to see it go, but I am just not using it enough. I have another vehicle so I am not interested in a part-exchange.Please note that I am in west Cornwall.Prearranged viewing available most days depending on weather ideally.Payment by bank transfer, not PayPal.
