1963 Morris Mini (Cooper)

We are selling this car/shell on behalf of Shane at Faircharm Restoration in Leicester.

Background. We have known Shane for a few years and as you will see from the photographs. he is a chap who has a very high level of skill when it comes to car body repairs and paintwork.

Faircharm Restoration is a small company with some very wealthy and exclusive clients from the classic car and motorcycle world. including some famous current and ex-racers who use Shane to paint and prepare rare and exotic machinery for events and concourse competitions both here in the UK and abroad.

His work is not the usual run of the mill paintjob and £10. 00 is the sort of price he is paid for a full ground up. bare metal prep and paint.

The Car. The car was bought by Shane back in 1997 from a friend of his. Prior to that. the car had been dry stored for many years. The car has been raced at some point in its past as the engine and body have been modified. *

The car comes with a log book and is currently registered as a MK1 Morris Cooper. there are a lot of 1963 parts on the car. but the shell is a MK2.

Like many race cars of that period we think it may have been re-shelled at some point. We say this as we want be very clear what this car is from the outset.

This car could be perfect for someone who has a Cooper in need of a restoration. as this one has had all the hard work done.

*Modifications to the shell. Bulkhead has been cut to allow Twin-Webbers to be fitted. the fuel and brake lines run inside the car.

Please see additional sections for detailed photo record of the restoration.

Exterior

History of the work carried out. The car was stripped about 10yrs ago and part blasted so it was possible to see where any repairs and welding might be required. The only bad parts were the floor pans which have been replaced with genuine parts.

The rest of the work was just very minor welding; the body was in very good condition due to the long period of storage dating back to the 1980's.

After sitting for many years on top of Shanes paint-booth it was decided that this summer was the time to get on with the car and either use it. or sell it.

As Shane has just moved to larger and more expensive premises he has decided to move the car on to its next keeper and use the funds to invest in further development of the business.

This is a wrench for Shane as even over the summer he was still trying to decide which way to go with this project. understandable when you've had something on your ‘to do' list for such a long time.

The whole shell was first paintstripped and then fully grit-blasted in preparation for paint. This included all areas. inside. outside. underneath etc.

The attached photos will give you a very good overview of all the work carried out. A great deal of time was spent on getting the bonnet. doors and boot to line up properly and the panel fit is spot on.

Paint Prep. After grit-blasting. all areas were 2 pack etch primed with Lechler product. then 3 coats of 2 pack epoxy zinc primer were applied.

After rubbing the epoxy down all areas were then seam sealed.

Stone chip was then applied on the underneath and inside floor areas. plus the engine bay and boot.

The whole car then had 3 coats of BLMC Tartan Red top coat applied. the result of which looks very impressive. The same system was applied to the roof. but this was finished in Snowberry White.

The whole car was then fully detailed and polished to a show standard. The hours alone spent on the car would normally cost you a huge sum of money and in Shane's words. ”The paint should now last a lifetime”.

If you click over to the 'Boot/Underside' section you will see more detail of this area of the car.

Boot/Underside

Underside. As there are so many detailed photos we have tried to split the main topside paint prep that is shown in the 'Exterior' section and the interior floor. underside and engine bay shots.

These areas were also painted with stone chip as you can see for even better long term protection before being top-coated as per the exterior. Hopefully this is clear. but by all means get in touch if you have any questions about the process.

Detailing

Other Parts. The sub-frames and sub-frame components have all been repaired and restored as required. The parts that needed painting have all been shot-blasted. epoxy powder-coated and then 2 pack painted and oven cured.

They are now better than factory finish and will stand the test of time very well. All other suspension parts have been replaced. such as steering rack. all new nuts and bolts on everything. poly bushes fitted. new sub-frame mountings. a high/low kit fitted. a negative camber kit etc etc. In fact nearly every part was replaced on both sub-frames.

All of the work carried out on the suspension was done ay Rohith-De-Silvar. who also helped fit them to the car. He is a very well known Mini-Racer. (The sub-frames are only loosely fitted to the car for transportation. )

Brand new period Cooper wheels with new tyres are also fitted to the car.

Engines and other parts. There are two engines with the car. both of which would require a strip-down and full rebuild if you are going to prep those to the same standard as the rest of the car. One is a 1300 A-Series that has been modified and was fitted to the car when purchased in 1997. The second engine is a GT 1300 A Series 5 stud head with twin SU's fitted.

The car is 95% there but some parts are missing such as the dash. front seats and front screen.

Market Value

Summary. All the hard and skilled work has been carried out on this car. and to a standard that would normally cost many. many thousands of pounds.

We use the expression quite often when we are getting work like this quoted on. that we want the standard to be ‘as if it was something they were doing for themselves'. Well in this case that's the standard you've got as the intention all along was for this car to be a keeper.

It now requires the mechanicals to be sorted out. either the ones that come with it. or as we suspect might be the case. the shell would be ideal for someone restoring their current car who might not want the hassle and expense of trying to get their metal work restored.

Having done many restorations ourselves over the years. we know just how the costs can run away with these things. and what at one point looked like a small job turns into a major headache and money-pit!!

Classic car values are on the up. but mainly on the top-end of the scale with people looking for the very best examples of the marque.   This car has that potential.

Feel free to call or email me if you would like additional information or to make an appointment to view the car.

* Shane would also be happy to discuss taking on the work to finish the car to your liking at an additional cost.

You can have a look at the mini and all his other projects on his facebook page.

  shmooautomotive ltd     Terms and Conditions

Please read before bidding or buying!

Terms of Sale

We always endeavour to give an accurate. fair. and honest description when it comes to a used vehicle. This of course is mutually beneficial as neither party wishes to waste each others time. We are here for the long run. and as such we want you as our customer for more than just one transaction. We strive for positive feedback and a happy customer is our best sales person.

Should you find our website or Ebay description of a vehicle is not as described once you arrive. (Should your purchase be made prior to seeing it) we are so confident in our accuracy. that we will cancel the sale. and you are able to walk away should you wish to take that option.

The winning bidder or buyer must pay a £199 deposit via Pay-Pal (this works with Visa/Master-card/Switch and is non-refundable) or in person within 48 hours of the end of the sale.  If you would like to see the car before you make your deposit then you will have to do this within the 48 hour period. If this condition is not met your bid will be automatically cancelled. This we feel is more than fair and again shows our commitment to reassure our customers.

After the deposit has been paid (please remember that if we have not been accurate with our description then you are entitled to a full refund). the full balance must be paid and the car or bike collected within 7 days of the end of the sale. Failure to pay and collect the vehicle within this period will result in a loss of the deposit and the car or bike being re-offered to the next highest bidder or re-listed. If you require storage beyond 7 days then this can be arranged at £10 +£ Vat per day.  If this option is required. it must be agreed in advance and at our discretion due to past delays we have experienced.

At the time of collection the balance must be paid in full. using cash. banker's draft. or Debit Card/Credit Card. We will need to verify the bankers draft by calling the issuer to check authenticity. Cheques are also acceptable but need to have cleared before you are able to take delivery. (This can take up to 10 days in some cases. so please take this into consideration)  All card transactions for payment will need to be done in person and not over the phone.  A 3% charge will be added should you wish to pay via Credit Card.  Paypal is only used as a deposit facility to a maximum of £199 due to excessive fees and delays in payment.

The bid you submit. or the price you agree is final. there will be no opportunity to begin negotiation upon collection. We will not tolerate this approach. and the option to purchase maybe removed from you should this be the case.

Description & Warranty

Our description of this vehicle is a general idea and overview of its condition. It is not exhaustive list as it would be impossible to inspect every single moving part. Opinions vary. especially when it comes to classic cars as we know when people describe "Concourse/Mint" vehicles to us. that are clearly not. We will of course describe things in an enthusiastic manner as we are car and bike fans just like you. however we will not view things through Rose Tinted spectacles just because we own it.    Please allow an amount of scale when it comes to buying to an older vehicle. Any obvious faults that may be apparent with the vehicle should be mentioned within the description. if there are none reported then there are no obvious faults at the time of the listing. Any obvious areas that would benefit from further improvement will be listed to ensure clarity and accuracy as best as possible.

Please remember when buying a classic car (10yrs old and above) that this is a classic and as such. an OLD car. ( I always liked the quote. "A car generally has to go through the stage of being just. Old before it reaches. Classic" ) It is reasonable to assume that there will be faults and slight imperfections. the odd job that needs attending to as is normal for an older vehicle.  Most used vehicles of any age will have small marks and faults when offered for sale; an old car is only perfect if described as such by us.  If an item or detail is not listed on the advert. please do not make presumptions regarding condition/specification. if in doubt get hold of us and ask. we would much rather go through a vehicle with you than have a query at a later date.  We don't bite. in fact we love talking to people. and the more questions the better in our view as we can start to build a relationship with you as a potential future client.

If we have made an error in detail or specification for some reason. we again will not expect you to continue with a purchase.

You can obviously test drive the car before leaving to confirm that it drives as we say it does. If it doesn't. then you are free to walk away. again we want you to be 100% happy.

Ebay transactions do not carry a warranty. Depending on the age and condition a classic car warranty maybe available via an independent warranty supplier at an additional cost to you.  Please contact us for any help we maybe able to give to you in this area.
