This is one of the nicer 47 Packard Custom Super Clipper's you'll find. very original and mechanically sound. I don't think you'll find one in this condition. having original upholstery and with only one repaint in it's 66 year history.

The car was originally sold in Buffalo New York to a banker from Ohio as these weren't as easily found when they were new. There is a pretty interesting narrative of the first owner history written by his son some years ago that goes with the car. There are also maintenance records and . Unfortunately the true miles of the car are unknown. the speedometer was not functioning for an unknown period of time so we'll never know for sure. The speedometer and odometer were rebuilt this last Dec. a new speedometer cable was installed at that time so it works as new now. The miles were set where the current owner felt it could be. so 47K miles is a guess as to how many miles it may have on it. The third owner called me and he told me it only had 29K miles on when owned it thru the 80's so I suspect we're close.

Mechanically it has had anything it needed. the car is as mechanically sound as you'll find. It had the clutch replaced in Dec. . the same time the speedometer was repaired. The brake master cylinder was replaced at the same time when it was discovered that someone had put the incorrect one in previously. it had the one for the standard car. The mechanical fuel pump works fine but he had an electric installed to assist in starting the car as it prevents it from cranking too long. The brakes were done several years ago. all new wheel cylinders were installed then also. The head was removed in 09 and the valves were resurfaced. the bottom of the engine was reported to be free of a cylinder ridge so it  was left alone. There is also a constant 40 psi of oil pressure that doesn't fluctuate. indicating tight bearing clearance. There are no issues with engine temperature even with our 100+ degree temps in the summer. The Electromatic clutch works as it should and had a minor adjustment done when the clutch was replaced. The exhaust system was worked on years ago and is as quiet as you'd expect from this car.

The exterior of the car is very nice. it has an older paint job that was laid over a perfectly straight body. it shines well and only has a few small spots that have started to check a little. The chrome and stainless trim show very well. there are some small pits on the handles and other cast parts as expected on a car that is driven. The panel alignment is as it should be and I couldn't see any indications of rust issues or any prior collision damage. The glass is beautiful. no scratches and only a few tiny pits in the windshield. There are several factory accessories. factory fog lights. reverse light. wind deflectors and the exhaust deflector that are very seldom seen on this model. In fact I was told this car is the only one known to have these fog lights and the widow shades. The tires are just a few years old and look almost new. the car is garaged of course. The wheel covers are near perfect. All exterior lights work perfectly as does the horn.

The interior is very presentable. everything is original right down to the carpet. The drivers side of the seat has some wear on the piping but the original broadcloth looks very nice. There is some wear on the drivers armrest but it's minimal and the drivers side of the carpet has some discoloration from shoes over the years. The rear seats look almost new and the headliner is in very good condition. The faux wood shows well on the dash and doors. The steering wheel has a few small cracks developing but nothing serious. the horn works. All of the dash lights work. all of the gauges as well as all the switches. The rear radio had the main box rebuilt several years ago but it doesn't function correctly. it makes some noise (static) and is thought that it has an antennae connection issue. The only other item not functioning is the clock but it's still right twice a day.

The car has NO rust issues. I did the clutch and speedometer repair and I spent time under her and found nothing other than light surface patina. The car was sold new back east but definitely was well cared for because I know what cars that aren't look like since I'm originally from WI. This is a high # 3 car but some consider me too critical and I tend to downplay condition. It wouldn't take much to bring it back up a being a national CCCA champion again. it won first prize in 1989. It was featured in the book "Packard the Pride" as well as some other publications over the years and is thought to be one of the most photographed of this model. The car has been owned by a couple of Packard Club member in the past so chances are some viewing this listing will know the car.
