SELLER REMARKS

Man the '60s were cool. weren't they? You could buy a Buick that looked like this 1963 Wildcat right off the showroom floor. Forget portholes and old-fashioned 50's styling. this car was the ride of choice if you had arrived in the world. but weren't quite ready to settle down.

The dark Diplomat Blue looks almost black under anything but direct sunlight. but it certainly looks right on this handsome hardtop. Still a serious. formidable car (it's a Buick. after all). it was also well-proportioned and sophisticated. The bright insert along the front fender and door is perhaps a tribute to cars of the '40s with their "sweep-spear" design. and it highlights the portholes that were still a big part of Buick's design ethos. The restoration is a few years old. so it's not flawless (nothing ever is). but it still looks quite good. suggesting that the restoration work was high-quality. The long. pointed quarter panels are a final farewell to tailfins. and their straight sheetmetal suggests that this car has always lived someplace sunny and warm and has never been involved in a serious accident. Plenty of chrome was still part of the package. with most of the brightwork on this car being original and in good condition for being 50 years old.

Full-sized comfort for five comes compliments of a pair of buckets up front and a wide. comfortable bench in back. It has an optional console and the dashboard was a direct relative of the spectacular setup found in the all-new 1963 Riviera. Round gauges with crystal clear markings look like nothing you've seen in a car before. and the only fake wood is on the steering wheel-everything else is stainless steel or brushed aluminum. An optional vacuum gauge on the center console ostensibly helps monitor efficiency. but with a thundering Nailhead under the hood. it's really an academic exercise at best. It also offers factory A/C. rare power windows. and a tilt column. The original AM radio is gone. replaced by an AM/FM/cassette stereo in the original slot wearing factory knobs to good effect. The trunk is more evidence that this has always been a clean car. and sports a correct rubber mat and fresh spare tire.

During a recent mechanical restoration. this Wildcat got a horsepower injection in the form of a 425 cubic inch Nailhead out of a later Riviera. With a recently rebuilt top-end. this torque monster yanks the big coupe up to speed effortlessly and makes the most delicious snarl that's wholly unexpected in a Buick. Finned valve covers and a chrome air cleaner add some flash. and that's correct Buick Turquoise paint underneath just for effect. It's mated to a heavy-duty TH400 3-speed automatic transmission that's a nice improvement over the original Dynaflow. and it drives the original rear end with highway gears inside. A new Flowmaster dual exhaust system. solid floors. and suspension systems that look like they've been recently restored make the trip underneath worthwhile. Classic Buick road wheels are a sporty OEM look and wear 225/75/15 whitewall radials that are plenty beefy for the big coupe.

A great car for the Buick fan. and a wonderful piece of muscle for the guy looking for something a little different. Experience some Nailhead torque. and you'll never go back. Call today!
