VW Type 2 Transporter Baywindow Campervan Microbus Volksiebus RHD SA Import for sale
Current customer rating: (396 votes ) based onRHD South African import & tax exempt from April 2014
Here is my 1973 retro VW microbus or "Volksiebus". It's ideal to run as is but also as a solid base for a camper conversion.
Imported from South Africa in late 2011 & I have owned it since 26 November 2011. I am selling (with some reluctance) as I just do not have the time to work on it. I had originally intended to convert the van to a camper but have since bought a (more practical) T4 Multivan which I can also use to drive to work all year round.
The engine is a strong 2 litre air-cooled reconditioned block which the importer told me was from an early T25. It pulls very nicely and is surprisingly fast. New Weber 32/36 carburettor fitted in April 2012.
Bodywork - not perfect but very good for a baywindow van (& much better than most UK vans). Chassis is very solid. Cab steps are tatty (see picture) and some slight bubbling. e. g. around passenger wheel arch. Originally painted in mid-yellow (see pictures) but resprayed to current colour in South Africa.
MOT passed 4 July 2013.
"Mileage" is 76K km (although I am sure the van has been round the clock).
Road tax exempt from April 2014 (following Govt announcement this year).
Interior has original rear seats. Front seats are recovered in a cheap canvas material but I have TMI basket-weave covers which I am happy to sell to the buyer separately. Retro curtains in rear made by "VW Camper Curtains Ltd". Z-hinges attached to rear bench seat so that it can convert to a bed (although I'm not convinced it is very practical/comfortable).
Some non-standard electrics fitted in South Africa. e. g. indicator switch & ignition barrel.
I will throw in around £500-worth of extra parts. including parts to reconnect the heating system (which I presume was taken out in South Africa).
Payment by cash or bank transfer.
