Thanks for your interest in my auction. While I am a huge Porsche 356 & early 911 fanatic I have always secretly pined for an early oval VW bug. There is something so alluring about an oval bug that I could not resist the temptation of someday owning one. My vision however was to incorporate all those cool period Porsche 356 bits into the project. little did I know @ the time that there was already a term for this called " vintage or oldspeed ". So as luck would have it in August of 2010 I chanced upon an old ad in " Samba " for a 1957 Oval ragtop in Idaho. It was a CAL Look car with a huge 2100cc motor. narrowed & lowered front beam. chromed Fuchs etc but the thing that struck me the most was the beautiful Azure Blue paint & the most gorgeous tan interior I have ever seen in a VW. As I spoke to the owner he told me he actually bought the car in Palm Springs CA from a very passionate VW guy who did a body off restoration on the car & that it was featured as a centerspread in a VW magazine in August of 2004. I also remember him telling me that the custom hand stitched interior ( replete with rare driver arm rest & correct rectangular rear pillows ) was done by Dave Lumetta ( well known in the Socal vintage VW scene ) & alone was worth $5000. 00. After a few days of back & forth calls. I finally convinced the owner to sell me the car. So. mission accomplished as far as buying an oval ragtop VW is concerned. Before arranging trucking from Idaho I made 3 important phone calls. the 1st was to Russ Rodriguez of Fibersteel in Azusa CA who had just finished restoring my Porsche 356 Carrera GT replica. Russ was stoked about my idea of doing a vintagespeed VW Porsche & gladly agreed to undertake the project. The 2nd call I made was to Bill Brown of Lincoln Nebraska to order a set of his newly rebuilt Porsche 356B drum brakes & the 3rd person I called that day was Trey Harrison of Memphis TN who had a very nice low mileage ( 1500cc big bore ) 1956 356 motor that I had to have for this project & the rest as they say is history. I will no longer bore you with the trials. tribulations & what seemed like a never ending slippery slope but rather have the photos speak for themselves.

The photos may not show it all but there are countless detailed fabrication related to tin. throttle linkage. muffler. gas tank. nbsp; rear apron and body mods for heads to fit. You will never need to drop the motor to adjust valves on this car. EVER !I have shown the car on a number of occassions here in SF bay area & was received quite well. It scoots down the Freeway with ease & cruises comfortably @ 80MPH & if you want more power. its there @ your beck & call. The car was a former showcar & still shows quite well BUT it is not a show car today. It has a few touched up paint around the semaphore housings. small paint bubble imperfection on hood & right rear fender ( camera cannot capture flaw ) & small paint blister on rear right apron ( below bumper ). Make no mistake. apart from the flaws the car is stunning even up close & will be a welcome addition to any vintage VW or Porsche collector. I have given this project much love & have put all the best period parts VW & Porsche could offer so please bid with confidence.
