I have been a Porsche fan for most of my life and have owned many over the years. mostly 911s. As I advance in years(!) I have come to the conclusion that owning several Porsches as I do now. is not really that practical.  Aside from the effort of getting in and out of some of the earlier models. I rarely get to drive them all so I have arrived at the conclusion that some must go.
For sale here is my 944 Turbo that I have owned for several years. I bought this car whilst living overseas. hence it is LHD. and brought it back with me to the UK a little over a year ago.
The car is a 1986 build date (11/86) but a 1987 model year hence it has driver and passenger airbags. 1987 MY Porsche 944 Turbos were the first production cars to have driver and passenger airbags fitted as standard or so I am told. However it does not have ABS as that was still an option.
My car was originally sold in the USA and at a later date moved to Japan from where I purchased it. The car is therefore US spec although  the only differences between US spec cars and ROW cars is that the rear bumper is slightly larger and additional lights on the rear corners. The car has its original stickers indicating the options on the car which include aircon. cruise control etc and I have the certificate of origin for the car that details the original spec. The colour is Ocean Blue metallic and the paintwork is immaculate. I had the car resprayed a couple of years ago as the tops of the wings were quite faded and despite much polishing and cutting wouldn't come back. There was and is absolutely no rust on this car or any accident damage. A quick peek inside the access panels in the door pillars will reveal inner sills that are as they left the factory. The interior is original light grey half leather/leatherette - it actually looks beige to me as you will see in the pictures - and is in good condition. As always it would probably benefit from a decent valet to look its best. The car is is use and not a garage queen!
Mechanically I would say the car is in excellent shape. Since bringing it back to the UK it has been serviced by my local Porsche specialist in Honition and I have recently had the following work done:12000 mile serviceAll belts and rollers replaced - water pump was new so not replacedOverhauled steering box as had developed slight leak New track rods and endsFull steering geometry/alignmentNew rear shock absorbers - the car has Koni Yellow adjustable shock absorbers front and rear as originally fitted as an option. Replacement ARB bushes
When I purchased the car the odometer read 65. 00miles however I noticed that it only worked intermittently. The back lighting for the dash display was also very poor so I purchased a secondhand dash complete and fitted that. The mileage on the replacement dash was 101. 00 so my estimate of the true mileage of the car is somewhere between the two although I cannot verify this. I did keep a picture of the old dash if anyone is interested as I sold it for parts.
The car feels very taut and handles as it should with no rattles. squeaks or other disturbing sounds. The engine is smooth and pulls very well and the gearbox is equally smooth with no issues. It is surprisingly quick for a 30 year old car.
The interior is in very good condition and everything works except the clock (obviously - never seen one that does!). The air-condition did work but is now not cooling properly. Whilst the compressor works it does not appear to be compressing so will need replacement if this is important to you. The car has an R12 system so this would be a good opportunity to replace with an R34 system. The sunroof functions normally.
The car is fitted with BBS RS 3piece split rims and Michelin tyres. These are original BBS wheels and not replicas and are in immaculate condition. They may not be to everyones taste but if you wanted to replace with something else these would fetch a good price.
Overall this is a very nice car even though it is LHD. Almost all UK cars will have or have had corrosion problems especially in the sills. Not this car. I won't say that this is the best available but I think you will have to go some way to find a better one.
Prior to my ownership the car belonged to a Japanese enthusiast who pampered the car as evidenced by the boot full of spares that I received with the car. The exhaust is a fairly recently fitted stainless system.
The only issue with the car at present is the airbag light has come on and my specialists were unable to communicate with the system to erase it - they didn't have the correct plug. I would also point out that the gearstick gaiter is a little worn and would benefit from replacement. The centre cubby box lid is not broken as many seem to be.
I would invite any interested parties to come and have a look at the car and I am happy for an independent inspection by a specialist to be carried out at your expense obviously.
I have placed this listing on a classified ad basis as I just do not have the time for all the time wasters out there and dealing with bidders who win and then disappear. These cars are becoming sought after now and good ones are hard and expensive to find. I would expect anyone interested in this car. especially as it is LHD (which I personally prefer from a driving perspective) to want to come and have a detailed look at the car. You are welcome and encouraged to do this. Test drives will be at my discretion.
If you would like any further information or specific pictures let me know.
I may also consider a swap for "something interesting!!"
Finally as I mentioned above I have several other Porsches and am thinking of selling my 2 914s both of which require a little work to finish them off. Work required is mechanical rather than restoration as that has been done already. I just don't think I am ever going to find the time to finish them sadly. Contact me if you are interested and we can have a chat.
