Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.05) based on 229 votes

The MSRP on this car in 1987 was about $13. 75. that is $28. 34 in 2016 dollars

So $16. 50 for this nearly new car is a bargain

You'll BUY THIS CAR!!!

BEFORE YOU LOOK. YOU NEED TO KNOW

This is NOT a show car. and.

. It is very RARE. one of only 1887

It is RUST Free. and. Restored to the original 1987 look

IT HAS

21. 00 miles on a rebuilt engine (December 2009)

A TH400 four speed transmission (vs stock 3 speed)

Many  many. new parts/accessories

A newly restored interior

New OEM two tone paint

A New Spare Tire (never on ground)

MOST IMPORTANTLY

This Caballero is solid and ready to drive across country at a reasonable price

BACKGROUND

When I say rare. I mean RARE.   Of the over 1. 00. 00 El Camino's/Caballero's built between 1959 and 1987 only 74. 55 were Caballero's. a mere 7%.   This makes the Caballero a rare find when it was new. now it is really rare.   They were not common when they were new and practically unheard of today.   No one knows how many are still on the road but this one of the last ones built by GM.

I purchased this GMC Caballero at an estate sale in Taylors. SC in June 2015.   Because the car is so rare. so clean. and with a re-built engine. I decided to make it a very nice. span >  affordably priced car. ready to drive across the country. that is. an everyday driver that will turn heads and you will be proud of.   In order to achieve the goals of Nearly New. Affordable. AND. Ready to Drive Across Country. I.

-did as much of the work I could myself

-used friends and connections to buy parts. accessories. and repairs at wholesale prices.

-hired a certified GM Master Mechanic to work off-hours and weekendsto dothe work I could/should not do.

This Caballero drives great. very smooth. and with its glass pack muffler it sounds like a 60's muscle car.   The HVAC and Cruise Control work fine.   The radio works fine but has a tinny sound due to the small (yet new) two 3 1/2 inch speakers.   It gets 14-15  mpg with premium fuel and an octane kicker.

IMPERFECTIONS

-To reduce the price of the paint job I did my own body work on the hood and few other places you can see where I had sanded out pits/dents.

-The gas gauge is off 1/2 tank.   So when it shows nearly empty you have 10 gallons.   I use 150 miles as my gas gauge.

-The oil pressure gauge read High. don't know why.   I use 10W30 oil.

-I applied the burled wood vinyl and silver tape on the dash and steering wheel.   Looking closely you can tell it was not done by a professional.

-This car came with a 3 speed transmission and at some point a four speed transmission was installed. don't know when or at what mileage.   As a result you are in OVERDRIVE when the gear shift indicator is directly over the N.
