'LOW MILEAGE - 68 DORMOBIL - ONLY 69'000 MILESMy beautiful Camper RUBY.
She has been dry-stored for 15 years. always with the ambition to fully restore her to concourse.  Now time is running out and other projects must take priority.  I've had many VW Campers through my hands over the years. but I have only very rarely come across one as totally original. clean and unmolested as Ruby.

There are two engines. the original. which I have stripped-down. and all it needs as far as I can see are new shells. the heads and pistons are good and can all be put together with a new gasket kit.  A replacement engine with very low mileage.  I took this engine apart to change to alternator but took the heads off because I couldn't help myself.  It all seems in very good condition and just needs putting back together again.  They are both 1600 single ports.  The interior of this beautiful dormobile is totally original. nothing is missing and needs nothing but a scrub and polish. if that. Even the cool-box is unmarked.  She has never had any filler and the body is as straight as when she came out of the showroom. Early in her life. someone had the foresight to completely zeebart the whole of the underneath (when you chip this 30 year plus zeebart off. she is as clean as my fridge. see photo).
She does need welding: front scuttle. rear chassis by one tube. and she could probably do with new jacking points. She may need a quarter panel below one of the rear lights and a replacement panel just under the windscreen on the drivers' side.
All the doors are as clean as a whistle and probably only need waxoiling.  The beam is like new. as is the floor-pan. battery trays are good.  
I took her out for a spin about 10 years ago and found the steering box was too tight. so there is a very good replacement steering box.  All the wiring is as original.
It chokes me to see her go. I hope she makes someone a life-long happy Camper and not just a quick-buck turnaround. There are lots of spares. that I have not mentioned. that will be going with Ruby.
