Technical specifications, photos and description:
When a man is locked away in a garage for an undisclosed amount of time and left to his own devices. occasionally something magnificent comes to market. in this case. a mechanically superior 1978 Triumph Spitfire.
When phrases like ‘top to bottom'. ‘front to back' and ‘…with a fine tooth comb' were coined. this Spitfire was in mind. To fully illustrate the work carried out by its current owner. a well-respected Triumph club member. let's start in the engine bay.
From the enclosed front air box and front air scoop. with an upgraded. full width GT6 radiator with a Kenlow electric cooling fan. this red British icon has been obsessively cared for. documented and enjoyed.
Work includes a recondition of the 1493cc engine. adding steel spaced and lightened rockers with a top oil feed. Overhaul of the SU carburetors. rebuild including new. correct. needles and springs. accompanied by two shiny K&N air filters.
Stemming from the meticulously cared for engine. beginning with extra large exhaust valves. is a fully stainless steel exhaust system including manifold (with a stainless heater pipe) straight through to two stainless large bore half-inch back boxes.
Complementing the series of mechanical improvements is a new clutch and a four speed manual gearbox with overdrive married to a new driveshaft. Naturally handling and braking were addressed with new. upgraded discs and pads at the front. and new rear springs and shockers. with polybushes all-around.
The interior has also enjoyed improvements. with upgraded seats fitted. Should you ever slow down sufficiently to dampen the exhaust note you may also notice a CD player and radio.
An aftermarket replacement hardtop (painted black) has been sourced and will be accompanying this motor car along with its original gearbox.
Paperwork accompanying this Spitfire encompasses twelve previous MoTs. an expanded upon Haynes manual (showing what work has been done and how) and a mountain of invoices and receipts so high that the best way to quantify it all is to weigh it (estimates so far place it in the 2-3 kilogram range).
The car was also subject to a body-off restoration in 1998. from which the current vendor commenced his extensive mechanical improvements.
To be sold with a V5C. full MoT and a selection of spares.
Guide range £5. 00 to £7. 00
