The Type 14 Karmann Ghia debuted at the October 1953 Paris Auto Show as a styling concept created by the Italian firm Ghia and shortly afterwards VW contracted with German coachbuilder Karmann for its manufacture. In contrast to the Beetle's machine welded-body with bolt-on fenders. the Karmann Ghia's body panels were welded on. hand-shaped and smoothed with English pewter in a time-consuming process commensurate with higher-end manufacturers and resulted in the Karmann Ghia's higher price. The Type 14 was marketed as a practical and stylish coupe or convertible rather than as a true sports car.

This stunning Karmann Ghia convertible we offer for sale has subtle modifications and road useable improvements over the original factory specification. A complete body off chassis nut and bolt restoration on rotisserie was completed a few years ago at a cost of over $ 16. 00 in the USA and the car has only been used sparingly since in good weather.
An uprated 1776cc engine with twin Weber carbs gives a substantial performance increase over factory standard.
Mag alloys are fitted alongside full 4 wheel disc brakes for greater stopping power.
Gear changes are swift and positive through the upgraded Hurst shifter.
Uprated suspension and Koni shocks ensure great handling and the car performs really well on the road.
A new hood with glass rear window has recently been installed.
The car has an outstanding Glasurit paint finish in the much admired and striking colour of Tangerine.

Always garaged since restoration and having never seen rain since. this car is in superb condition in all respects and is a complete joy to drive. With a fresh MOT and UK registration process underway following it's recent import from the Southern States. the car is ready for Spring and it's first owner in the UK.
