Volkswagen VW 1972 Type 3 Fastback 1600She was immaculate prior to the accident except for the couple of bubbled rust spots as pictured. The pictures form part of the description but I'll attempt to itemise as much as I can think of.
Interior:- New carpet throughout including rear boot lining and felt on rear parcel shelf- Interior fully lined with sound proofing under carpet- All upholstery on seats in excellent condition and front seats work normally- Dash in excellent condition with no cracks- Door linings. handles. armrests. rear side panels. etc all in excellent condition- Brand new Sony Bluetooth/MP3/USB with AM/FM (No CD) including handsfree capability with speakers. This is neatly packaged in the only useful thing to come out of a Ford Falcon AU. being the DIN facia. The best thing is. if you don't like it. you can remove it without any residual damage to the dash as I used already existing holes. Pure genius :)You'll notice under the front bonnet there is an original-ish AM/FM Volkswagen radio. I can't vouch for the authenticity or if it works. but it's there.
Mechanical:I had her tuned by Penfold Automotive in Georgetown Newcastle. For anyone not from Newcastle. Perry Penfold has a reputation for knowledge on VW's and he reckons this one was one of the best he's seen. Mechanically immaculate except for a slight occasional catch in the gearbox shifting down from 3rd to 2nd. - New steering column. - Fully converted to unleaded- Oil filter conversion for simpler oil changes. Last done about 2000km ago- Recently tuned and carbs balanced. She still runs perfectly. As per the photos. you can see the front left wheel has a proper camber on it now. but still rolls fine. I drove her up on a float to retrieve her from the panel beaters (who only had her to quote for the insurance purposes) and to unload her and park her back in my garage at home.
ExteriorThe pictures tell the story. She's immaculate except for the rather unsightly modification performed by an XR6 on the passenger side and a couple of rust spots. - Window rubbers around the front and rear windscreens. rear side and door windows are all in excellent condition- Chrome bumper bars in very good condition. Personally. I think they could probably do with rechroming. but otherwise straight. - Tyres are all brand new and have only 2000km on them. - The passenger side hub caps are trashed but you can see a spare under the bonnet. You need only one more. - The paint appears to be enamel and apart from already looking fine would come up beautifully with a polish.
The not so good:- Check out the passenger side!
Essentially. this car is a panelbeaters dream. Mechanically perfect and interior the same. Just a bugger of a ding to repair. Otherwise. she is a treasure trove of parts for someone restoring another one.
