Classic RestoMods presents a just completed BOSS 529 featuring Jon Kaase BOSS 429 heads and Intake on a 460 big block. bored and stroked to 529ci delivering an amazing 740 horse power/700 ft lb torque! (Dyno chart included in photos)
The Boss 429 is arguably one of the rarest and most valued muscle cars to date. In total there were 1. 58 Boss 429's made. The origin of the Boss 429 comes about as a result of NASCAR. Ford was seeking to develop a Hemi engine that could compete with the famed 426 Hemi from Chrysler. NASCAR's rules required that at least 500 cars be fitted with this motor and sold to the general public. The 429 development project code name was “Shotgun”. After much consideration. it was decided by Ford that the Mustang would be the car that would house this new 429 hemi engine.
In 1970 there were 499 Boss 429's made by Ford Motor Company. There were five new exterior colors (Grabber Orange. Grabber Green. Grabber Blue. Calypso Coral. and Pastel Blue) and the interior was available in White or Black. The hood scoops for this year were all painted black regardless of the color of the car. These cars also had a manual transmission and no AC was available.
These cars were rated conservatively at 375 horsepower and 450 ft lbs of torque. Actual output was just over 500 horsepower . The manufacturers and dealers only listed 375hp because of legal issues and rising insurance costs.
In present day. these cars are highly sought after. Recent auctions on EBay motors. Mecum and at Barrett-Jackson have brought bids of well over $417. 00 for original BOSS 429's.
Classic RestoMods is proud to present their tribute to the Boss 429. A complete rotisserie build. every nut and bolt new. surrounds this amazing engine. We started with a 1970 fastback which was completely sodablasted and all rust removed and new sheet metal replaced. All new parts were used to improve the handling of this car. New Total Cost Involved (TCI) suspension and components. Wilwood 6 piston front/4 piston rear. 13” disc brakes and Tremec TKO 600 5 spd transmission (cryogenically treated to increase strength by 15%) complete the transformation. To fit the 529 engine in the Mustang's engine bay. the shock towers had to be removed. firewall flattened and trans tunnel raised. The TCI Mustang II front suspension. with chrome show parts. coil-over shocks (front and rear). power rack and pinion fitted to a tiltable Flaming River steering column and steering wheel. A Currie F9 rear with TruTrack posi. 3. 50 gearing and 3 link suspensions and torque arm round out the package. All frame rails tied together and X-braced as noted in all the pictures attached.
Keeping in line with the Classic RestoMods mission of building classic cars with new technology. the exterior and interior of the car are weren't left alone either. The Calypso Coral custom paint with painted Strips (no decals here) are to a showroom quality. The interior received Corbeau LG1 comfort reclining racing seats. 5 point seat belt harness and matching rear seat covers. All gauges are custom built with special graphics to represent the BOSS 529 and its “Shotgun” name. This custom car's name from Ford's 429 project code name “Shotgun”.
