“Hey. nice El Camino!”  “Thanks. but it's not an El Camino”.

Get ready to have that conversation whenever you drive this 1972 GMC Sprint.   While Chevrolet produced over 63. 00 El Camino's GMC produced just 6. 73 Sprints.   That means that a Sprint is a unique vehicle but parts are easy to obtain (as they produced over 350. 00 Chevelles which has much in common with the El Camino and Sprint).

This Sprint is a numbers matching 350 cubic four barrel with a Turbo 350 automatic transmission (one of just 689 so equipped).

UNDER THE HOOD

When we bought this car we checked the compression and all cylinders were over 120 pounds indicating that the engine was in good shape.   The original cast iron manifold and Quadrajet carburetor was replaced by an aluminum intake and a Holley 750 carb.   A new style serpentine belt system was installed. which involved replacing the water pump. power steering pump. alternator and air conditioning compressor.   All of these original parts are available if you want them.   The transmission is believed to be original and it shifts strongly so it probably has a shift kit installed.

FRONT SUSPENSION

The front suspension was completely rebuilt using polyurethane bushings. new ball joints. tie rod ends. coil over shocks and new springs from Year One.

REAR SUSPENSION

Like the front. the rear suspension was completely rebuilt using polyurethane bushings. new springs and Hijacker air shocks (all Sprints and El Caminos came with air shocks).   The oil was changed in the rear end.

INTERIOR

The floor pan on the passenger's side was replaced and any small holes were welded up.   Rust around the front and rear windshields were repaired professionally at a cost of over $3. 00; no other rust has been found.   The rear glass was replaced.   The factory bench seat was replaced by bucket seats (the driver's seat is power) and the headliner is in perfect condition.   Three point seat belts were installed.   The factory “sweep” type dash was replaced with round instruments from Marshall.   A stereo from Retro Sound was purchased but not installed (comes with the car along with two Kicker speakers).   New carpet was professionally installed.

There is a ground problem with the six gauges that makes them operate intermittently.   Should be easy for someone with knowledge of wiring to fix (I hate electrical issues).

EXTERIOR

Here is where the car needs finishing – it needs a paint job.   There are a few dents from hail on the top of the cab and there are a few holes that need to be welded up from where the chrome trim from the original vinyl roof was removed.   There are also a few holes from where the original horizontal chrome strips were removed (but they are included with the car if you want to put them back on).   It appears that the bumpers will need to be straightened.

Newer 15” wheels and tires have been installed. and it even comes with the factory original 14” wheel covers.

MISCELLANEOUS

There are several things that come with the car such as a maintenance manual. some new parts (gas pedal. rear view mirror. etc. ).   I prefer to sell the car locally so you can see exactly what you are getting.   Let me know if you have any questions and I will answer them quickly.

This car was bought as a project for my son and I to work on together.   However. he has lost interest in it so it needs to go.   If you are really interested in it make me an offer and we will see if we can work out a price that both of us can live with.
