Fiat 500 Giardiniera 1971 with "suicide doors" & full-length sunroof for sale
Current customer rating: (384 votes ) based on1971 Fiat 500 Giardiniera with suicide doors. as rare as hen's teeth.
This is an exceptionally rare Fiat 500 Giardiniera and you really ought to buy it before someone else does. You like those cheeky little classic Fiat 500s? Well this is the estate version. much rarer and excellent for showing. sunny weekends with the roof back or advertising your business. You could use it as your daily drive if you wanted even though it's 43 years old. and therefore one of the very last made. It's just been serviced.
The "Giardiniera" featured the standard Fiat 500 engine laid on its side. the wheelbase was lengthened by 10 cm to provide a more convenient rear seat and it comes equipped with full-length sunroof and suicide doors.
These Estate 500s are very rarely available. especially in as good a condition as this one. which was imported from San Benedetto Del Tronto near Ancona in the South of Italy. The car is a good quality non-mechanical restoration. The paintwork. mechanicals. electricals and body are of a very good standard. the chrome work is bright and the interior is lovely with an honest. original feel.
The car is reliable and with a strong engine. There are only very minor blemishes (see photos). which really don't detract from the appearance of the car at all but which should be attended to inexpensively in order to keep this fast appreciating classic car on the road for another 50 years.
The car is not registered but has papers for registration in the UK and abroad. It has been used for movie and TV work. I've had this car for about 3 years and have never wanted to sell it; however. if it doesn't go SHE will. which will cost me a fortune and selling it will earn me a good few quid. Mind you SHE does have a point: I have another Giardiniera. 2 classic Fiat 600s from the 1960s. a 1968 Fiat 850s coupe and (creme de la creme) a 1953 Fiat Topolino (and those are just my Italian classics). Interested in any of those?
You can contact me on 07577200300 (please text me first as I get a lot of spam calls so sometimes don't pick up unknown numbers and I really don't want PPI claim services and I haven't had an accident recently for which I can sue the pants off anyone. but thanks anyway).
Please don't ask me for my "best price" as I won't give it but if you want to make a bid. please first check Car and Classic or other classic car sites to give you an idea of value.
Update
I have been told by another eBayer that I should actually describe this car as an Autobianchi not a Fiat. As you can see from the Wikipedia entry below. Fiat transferred production of these cars to Autobianchi in 1966. Autobianchi was a company jointly formed by Fiat. Bianchi and Pirelli. This car was made in 1971 ad is therefore an Autobianchi.
K or Giardiniera (1960–1975)
The estate version of the Fiat 500 is the longest running model. The engine is laid under the floor of the boot to create a flat loading surface. The roof on this model also stretches all the way to the rear. not stopping above the driver and front passenger as it does in other models of the same period. The K also features "suicide doors" and was the only model to continue to sport this door type into the 1970s. In 1966 production was transferred to Desio where the Giardiniera was built by Fiat subsidiary Autobianchi. [1] A total of 327. 00 Giardinieras were produced. later examples having Autobianchi rather than Fiat badging. [1]
