1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible "6227 DOCUMENTED ORIGINAL MILES!" One of the absolute nicest left in the world. PRISTINE & Everything works! Exterior Color: Kingswood Green (Dark Green) Interior: Dark Green Leather Convertible Top: Medium Green Convertible Hard Boot and Convertible soft boot: Dark Green (matches car) Serial Number: 6L67S6Q223402 Mileage: 6. 27 (Actual mileage and so stated on the title) DRIVEN AN AVERAGE OF 165 MILES A YEAR. slightly less than 15 miles a month! On the last day of February in 1976. I remembering reading on the front page of the Wall Street Journal that Cadillac had announced that this would be the end of production of the fabulous Cadillac Eldorado Convertible. and it held true to this statement. Cadillac destroyed the convertible molds and gone from GM's lineup was the full size passenger Convertible. overnight prices soared for these cars and when they built the last 200 cars. which were called "Bicentennial" due to the white with red and blue stripes. prices hit $100. 00 and above.  This is the history which was told to us by this car's 2nd owner. a retired ex military pilot.  According to him. this car was purchased new by a member of the Du Pont family. the makers of the famous family of E. I DuPont paints. They ordered this spectacular dark green color which is breathtaking and must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. it really is SPECTACULAR in every way.  It is currently owned by Roger. a private collector who is a long time friend of mine and fellow collector. He has acquired several other cars for his collection and is selling a few cars to make room for the new arrivals. A car Roger is still seeking is a 1955-1957 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing. Contact me if you have or know of one. I have personally sold many cars to Roger over the past years and he is a true gentleman and a real credit to the car collecting world.  Several of the cars in his collection were sold to Roger by myself from the incredible Cars Of Dreams Museum. at present all of these cars are remaining in Roger's collection. but if he ever decides to sell any. they will be offered exclusively on Ebaymotors. com.  Roger only buys the best of the best and keeps his cars in a climate controlled upscale warehouse that he owns. he loves to "tinker" on his cars and has his own lift as well. For the more intricate work he uses the services of highly qualified professional mechanics.  This car can be seen and inspected in Colonial Beach. Virginia. Please call me at 954-873-6495 to arrange an inspection and appointment to see this magnificent ultra low actual mileage Cadillac Eldorado Convertible.   The car was traded into a Cadillac Dealership in New Jersey when the 2nd owner purchased this car with just 3996 miles.  original miles. He bought the car on 2-12-1992 from a Cadillac Dealership where the original owner had traded in the car. At that time (SEE INDIANA TITLE IN THIS AUCTION) the Eldorado Convertible had just 3996 actual miles.   The gentleman was an ex military pilot and he flew to New Jersey. purchased this car and drove it back to his home in Bloomington. Indiana. This was the longest trip he took with his beloved Cadillac Convertible and when he sold this car to Roger. the 3rd owner. it had only 5778 miles. This means he drove the car about 1759  miles from 1992 until selling the car to a dealer in August of 2012 with 5755 miles The car was started on a regular basis and kept in a climate controlled environment.  When Roger purchased this car in January of 2013. the original tires were replaced with the correct steel belted radials. The original tires were saved and are pictured in the auction and will be included with the sale. They are from the correct manufacturer and are the original correct size.  They have lots of tread left. as should tires with just a few 1000 miles. but were replaced due to age. The spare has also been replaced but the original was not saved.  One of the reasons that this car is free of any rust or corrosion is that it was Ziebarted when new. and also because it has never been driven in inclement weather nor has it been left outdoors a single night.  This is like buying a car that has just come out of a 38 year old time capsule.  As you can see in the background of one of the photos. Roger was able to find a very. very low mileage documented Bicentennial model. (1 of 200 made) The acquisition cost was almost 3 times what this car can be purchased for! These are large cars and he just hasn't the room for two 1976 Eldorado Convertibles. When he bought this car it had 5778 miles which means he had the pleasure of driving this car a few hundred miles over last Summer. The Bicentennial is started on a regular basis but currently is NOT being driven.  All the power windows. dual comfort 6/way power seats. power top. AM/FM Stereo Radio. Power Antenna. all the gauges. Horn. lights. Wipers. Air-Conditioning. etc. . are operational. Roger just replaced the AC Compressor and had the system checked for leaks (it blows ice cold) and also replaced the passenger seat motor.  The seats (all original) have no cracks or tears and are still supple and in excellent condition. The carpeting is in remarkable condition and indicates how well this car has been treated.  Included will be the original Cadillac floor mats and the Cadillac trunk mat.  This car has never been smoked in and has no smoke odors! The clock doesn't work. but is accurate twice a day. Should you wish to have the clock fixed and updated. there are several companies who advertise in Hemmings that if you send them your old original clock. they will send it back to you with a modern quartz movement. I believe the cost is $95.  The convertible top is the factory original top and considering it is 38 years old is in remarkable good condition. it does not need to be replaced and should not be replaced.  The only items that we know for certain that have been replaced on this car are the tires. battery. AC Compressor and the power passenger seat motor.  This is a turn key very. very low mileage Cadillac Eldorado Convertible that can only appreciate in value. It is a rare and unique opportunity to own a car that is sought-after and collected on a WORLD WIDE BASIS. and can be bought from a PRIVATE owner at a very fair price.   Roger drove this car at 65-70mph said he would not be hesitant to drive this car any distance. at any time.  He said  did not hear a single rattle. squeak or other sound that shouldn't be there. The speedometer works well and does not "jump and jiggle" as many do on older vintage cars.  The suspension is EXCELLENT as are the brakes. When applied hard the car does not pull to the left or right and stops correctly.   I could go on and on about how magnificent the paint. chrome. interior is on this car but the high resolutionphotos tell the story. It's VERY important that a  vintage car drives as good as it looks and this is a NO DISAPPOINTMENT car.  It starts on the 1st time. every time and idles smoothly and is very quiet. Roger has not detected any oil or water leaks after the car is driven and then parked.  Included in the photos is the FACTORY ORIGINAL Owners Manual as well as any receipts Roger might have with the car.   This truly is an ORIGINAL car of "Pebble Beach" Concurs d' elegance  quality  . this is a Museum quality car that can be driven every day. IMPORTANT. it drives as good as it looks. SPECTACULAR! Where did the name ELDORADO come from? The name "Eldorado" was proposed for a special show car built in 1952 to mark Cadillac's Golden Anniversary; it was the result of in-house competition won by Mary-Ann Marini (née Zukosky). a secretary in the company's merchandising department. Another source. Palm Springs Life magazine. attributes the name to a resort destination in California's Coachella Valley that was a favorite of General Motors executives. However. the Eldorado Country Club in Indian Wells. California was not founded until 1957 - five years after Cadillac's naming competition. In any case. the name was adopted by the company for a new. limited-edition convertible that was added to the line in 1953.  The name Eldorado was derived from the Spanish words "el dorado". which is translated "the gilded one" or "the golden one" in English; the name was originally given to the legendary chief or "cacique" of a South American Indian tribe. Legend has it that his followers would sprinkle his body with gold dust on ceremonial occasions and he would wash it off again by diving into a lake. The name more frequently refers to a legendary city of fabulous riches. somewhere in South America. that inspired many European expeditions. including one to the Orinoco by England's Sir Walter Raleigh.  A little History about the ELDORADO Cadillac. The Cadillac Eldorado was another masterful creation from the genius of Harley Earl and his GM design studio. It was 1st offered in 1953 and also appeared at the GM MOTORAMA show in New York City.  The Eldorado Convertible was produced from 1953 thru 1966. all models were rear wheel drive.  There was no Eldorado Convertibles offered from Cadillac between 1967-1970. on;y a DeVille model less expensive convertible.  A front wheel drive Eldorado Convertible was built by Cadillac and introduced in  1971 and built until 1976. with 1976 being the last year GM would build a full size convertible. and of course the 1976 is considered to be the most collectable of all of the front wheel drive Eldorado Convertibles.  We have been buying. trading. selling and collecting vintage and collectible cars since 1962 .  Twenty First Century Auctions has been selling fine vintage and collectible cars on EBAYMOTORS since March of 2000 and we have a 100% feedback rating.  Even in this very tough economic times where real estate has tumbled down a very steep hill. vintage cars. the real ones. the pedigreed cars in great restored or near perfect original condition continue to hold value and in most instances appreciate.  Why not have fun with your money? . enjoy your life and know that when you wake up in the morning your dollars are still safe in your garage or warehouse and haven't evaporated into thin air I was privileged to be close friends with the late Jerry J. Little did Daimler realize just how much his tiny one cylinder motorized bike was going to change the world when invented in the mid 1890's. This motorized bicycle was refined and eventually became the 1st automobile. (one cylinder) and his company became known as Daimler/Benz. (Mercedes Benz) (DaimlerChrysler today)

James DeanStep back with us for a return to the middle of the twentieth century. The late. great fabulous 1950's. It was a wonderful time. offering so many new beginnings. as the terrible memories of World War II began to gradually fade and the dreams of our returning heroes and soldiers. as well as their families. could now be fully realized.

With the promise of a lasting world peace. came the hope of prosperity and tranquility. all of which was soon to become a reality.
Elvis "An Age of Innocence"The Fabulous Fifties was an "age of innocence" and as a young man growing up during this period. a guy would consider himself to be "lucky" if he was able to hold a girl's hand on their first date. If he got a peck on the cheek by their third date. well. he knew they were made for each other!

It was an age of integrity and trust. One could actually leave your front and rear door unlocked and your car keys in your ignition. and when you returned. nothing would be missing.

"The Rock n' Roll Era and the The Drive-In Craze"
Book by Michael Karl Witzel
Book by Don and Susan Sanders In the 1950's life was less complex and perhaps a little slower. People actually took time to wave from their convertibles to friends and to even smile to a stranger and even give a friendly "Hello" to a passerby. Remember those great nights at the local drive-in restaurant or those "make-out" sessions at the local drive-in movie theater. And the term "Parking" took on a whole new meaning.

By the mid 1950's Rock n' Roll had burst onto the scene. Both new cars and souped-up hot rods had become part of the youth culture. The entertainment industry. not to be left out. brought out countless low-budget movies that brought teens to the drive-in movies by the thousands. By the early 1960's songs such as the Beach Boy's "409" and "Little Duece Coupe". The Ripchords "Hey Little Cobra" Jan & Dean's "Drag City" and Ronny and the Daytona's " GTO" were riding high on the charts.

Our love affair with the Automobile was in "full bloom. " A few days prior to the new model cars being shown to the public. most new car dealerships would cover their showroom windows with brown paper. Many times I recall try to catch a peek or a glimpse of the new models. The American Public could hardly wait to see what new and exciting creations were about to be offered by Detroit. It is these very cars. the Cars of our Dreams. that we will feature and reminisce about. and every month we will offer stories and memories of these great "Cars of our Dreams. ". as well as offering the very best examples for sale.

The cars of the 50's and 60's for the most part had "personality!" The great Chevys. Pontiacs. Cadillacs. Buicks and Oldsmobiles helped make GM a world leader and giant of the auto world.

Ford produced fabulous cars including Ford Thunderbirds. Lincolns and Mercurys. Chrysler offered all those incredible Mopars. Plymouths. Desoto. Dodges. and Chrysler.

1959 Cadillac Brochure Cover Competition was fierce. but other marquees like Studebaker. AMC. Nash. Kaiser. Hudson. Muntz. Tucker. Avanti. etc. tried to capture a piece of this huge exploding marketplace. Unfortunately. they didn't have the dollar and staying power to compete with the "Big Three. "

As the 1960's drew to a close. cars began to change. New EPA requirements and increasing prices for gasoline hasten the demise of the "Muscle" car. The horsepower race came to an end by the early 1970's. at least for a while.

In 1976 Cadillac crushed the molds to build their last Convertible. the Cadillac Eldorado. They theorized that the American buying public didn't really want convertibles anymore and that production numbers were too small to bother with manufacturing "open air" cars. Boy were they wrong! Heinz Prechter seized the opportunity to custom make convertibles for most manufacturers and ASC (American Sunroof Corporation) exploded with orders and sales. It was a much smaller version of the 71-76 models which seated 4 adults. not 6 as were the 71-76 models
So what exactly is it that makes us lust after those "Cars From Our Dreams?" Simple. it's the memories. the happy times. those great times from our youth and the freedom to go where we wanted. when we wanted. with whom we wanted. and in a car that was a ball to drive. It's where Johnny took Mary on their 1st date!

It's so easy to spot a "Car From Our Dreams" on our highways today. just look for someone motoring down the street with a huge grin on their face. Today our hobby is pursued by guys and girls alike. it's just not a "guy" thing anymore and I think that's great. There are enough great memories to go around for everyone.

How big is the car-collecting hobby? No one really knows for sure. However. there are several million cars that have been preserved or restored and our hobby is expanding. not shrinking. and with sixty million "Baby Boomers" with disposal income and spendable dollars out there. the prices will continue to escalate.

The nice thing about our hobby today. as opposed to the wild speculation on vintage cars that occurred throughout the 1980's is that these cars are being driven and enjoyed. not just been stored away in warehouses and garages.

So celebrate with us as we embark on the next fifty years and if you feel compelled to exclaim "Hubba Hubba" or a loud "Hooray" as we reminisce with these "Cars From Yesterday and Cars Of Our Dreams". it's perfectly acceptable!
