1970 Chevrolet El Camino SS396
Thanks for your interest in the 1970 El Camino SS396. We purchased the car in Winslow. Arizona. The owner inherited it from his brother who had restored the car a few years ago. According to the build sheet. it was originally delivered to McLean. Texas.
The body of the El Camino is solid and rust free. It was repainted to its original Autumn Gold with black SS stripes. It is 2-stage. good driver paint with a nice shine and clean finish. It has a few chips at the hood point and on the edge of the driver's door. The chrome appears original and is in very good condition. The underbody was detailed when it was restored. It shows a little road rash but still is very clean. The passenger side rear floor pan has been replaced with a correct reproduction. It's topped with its factory black vinyl top. No rust bubbles are detected under the material.
The interior is correct and restored to original specifications. It includes the correct SS dash. SS door panels. bench seat. SS steering wheel. tilt steering wheel and factory air conditioning. It is very clean but does show some light wear and fading. The dashpad is excellent with no cracks. The driver's side of the seat has a very small split. The carpet is very good but has faded a little.
The engine and compartment are clean and stock. It is a correct CTW suffix code 396-350 horsepower with a functional cowl induction hood. The VIN is clearly present on the front engine pad. It has a few upgrades including a 700R4 automatic transmission. high performance Merlin heads. Flowmaster muffler and Edelbrock rear trailing arms. It has a CCF code 3. 31 12-bolt positraction rear differential and rear sway bar. The car is very quick and in great running and driving condition. It has factory power steering and power front disc brakes.
Unlike most Super Sports out there. this El Camino is documented as a true Super Sport by its rare. original build sheet!
Overall. it's a great driver the way it is. Given its original engine and build sheet. it is certainly worth continued restoration. Big block. El Caminos are on the rise.
