A Classic 1972 VW Four-Door Beetle Cabriolet.

Brief history of the Type 18-A 4-door Beetle Cabriolet - 1948 to 1952.
From the period 1948 to late 1952 three coach-building firms were involved in building the VW Beetle Type 18-A 4-door
Cabriolet models;- Karosserie 'Hebmüller'. Austrian 'Austro-Tatra' and 'Karosserie Franz Papler' of Cologne. Germany.

Only Hebmüller and Austro-Tatra firms had VW factory approval to construct
these special Police vehicles. however after the Hebmüller firm went bankrupt. nbsp;
Franz Papler to began modifying vehicles for the German police. - probably
commissioned by the [then] governing authorities! 
Several makes of vehicle were used including ;- 'DKW' Sonder. 'Ford' Taunas. and the VW Beetle.
 Because 'Papler' did not have VW factory approval they had to find their own vehicles to convert.
Some were purchased new. but in most cases were bought [as new] on the second-hand market.

From the period 1951 to 1952 'Karosserie Papler' converted 51 VW Beetle saloons into four-door Cabriolets.
Only 8 original examples are known to have survived world-wide of which I have owned and restored two of them.

Over a twelve year period - three late model vehicles have been produced.
All vehicles built to original factory specification. but much improved and updated.
One such vehicle [the first] is featured here for sale. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity
to purchase just one of only three [late model] VW Beetle 4-door Cabriolets.

All original drive-train [all numbers match] - 1200cc engine - gearbox etc.
Original chassis floors etc. etc - a rock solid vehicle.
The car has had only one previous lady owner.

The car has been painted in German police colours to match the period of the car.
[The 'Polizei' text can of-course be removed if you wish to change the theme of the car].

A good usable classic car that is a very sound investment.
and a real crowd puller. you will indeed become famous overnight on the VW scene!
