1976 Fiat 124 Spider A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing!

Well. I'm getting older and my wife says if I want a boat. then the Fiat has to go.   Hmm. I've fought it for 9 years but. life can always change.

Growing up my big brother always owned spiders and we had a great many road trips to Yellowstone Park at 100mph with the top down celebrating life.   When I was in my 40's he suggested getting a spider and putting a 350 in it. and of course. I listened.   That was when I was between wives and was single.   I had no idea of the type of cost one can incur doing a change like this and having it professionally done by a builder who specialized in Pro Street or Pro Strip.   WOW!  Friggin expensive.   Then it's "well. where do I quit?"  Every time there's an issue. it was a $500 bill to fix.   My wife of 9 years kind of got sick of that.   The car doesn't have too many miles on it. it sits in the garage most of the time. waiting.

This car looks like an old Fiat. many people now. a whole new generation that had never seen these type of cars will ask me. "what kind of car is that?"  Of course. I have to take advantage of that naivety by saying. "well. it's an old Ferrari. "  When I beat them and they have a big block they tend to believe.   Well I'm half right anyway. Ferrari is owned by Fiat :-)

The car as I said. is Fiat in looks only.   I'll try to go through a partial list of modifications off the top of my head:

94 Vette LT1

96 Vette OBD-II Computer custom programmed with Painless wiring

Deltec Ignition

New plenum with 52mm throttle body

700r4 Automatic transmission 4 sp w/reverse

B&M Pro Shifter with reverse lockout.   Nitrous purge is on the shifter. Transmission shift kit.

Front and rear sway bars

Shortened 10 bolt Camaro rear end with 3. 73 Eaton Posi-track. Chevy rear drum brakes. and Tom's Kick-Ass axles. (the rear end alone cost me $7500)

Custom radiator

Supra rack and pinion steering

Dual custom exhaust. (not Fiat). dual mufflers.

Aftermarket Personal (brand name) steering wheel

17" wheels and tires brakes/drums drilled to accept 100mm 4 bolt wheels

Specialized aftermarket "Whoa Brakes" Willwood front disk brakes

Dragstrip ready direct brakes. with no master cylinder. (one foot on the gas. one foot on the brake)

Nitrous bottle in the trunk. nitrous is directly tied into the foot pedal. when the bottle is armed. open. heated by two switches under the dash. purged by the button then it is full on when you stomp on the gas and off when you let off.

Frame rails welded in underneath. new firewall and floor pan

6 point roll cage body stiffener

Chrome molly rear trailing arms. all 4.

Aftermarket gauges:  the speedometer/miles was used with 40. 00 on it when the engine build was brand new.

Currently the car has a 100hp shot of nitrous but there are different ports up to 150. never tried that.   It currently has around 450hp at the rear wheels.

It beats big blocks in the quarter and I've had it buried only once down the highway. (it floated and was a bit much for me. probably about 180).

25mpg hwy at 65mph. pretty darn good!

I have other Fiat parts such as an original set of seats out of a 68. a newer windshield. various other parts. like a fiat transmission. (that was for the other fiat I had but never used). etc. etc.   It all goes with the car.

I had an appraisal done a few years ago and it came in around $15. 00 with the possibility of it going up to $30. 00 once I had the body work done.   Never did that as I'm not interested in putting more money into it.   I have a standing offer of $3500 from my barber. (probably not the person to sell it to since he just had 7 vertebrae fused).   I have over $35. 00 in this car.   It's mostly the labor incurred making it what it is.   Picking it up for cheap here. it's probably the quickest 124 in the world.   It would make a nice addition to any garage.   I took it a few years ago to an Italian car show in Denver and instead of going to the new F1 Ferrari. many 124 enthusiasts came to my car.   It didn't win anything. and I for one would rather own an F1. (incidently the F1 said no touching and I touched it. probably the closest I'll ever get to being in one).   It felt good though to shake hands and share.

I'm listing it cheaply as my beginning price is my reserve.   Sorry but if you're a 124 enthusiast. you'd be a fool not to buy it. I'm a fool to sell it. but I'm 55 now and after losing a brother to mersa last year. I've rethought my priorities in this life and this car isn't included.   My loss. your very GOOD gain :-)

Listing this for less than a 10th of what I have into it!  It is also listed locally so I reserve the right to end the listing.   I'll also add more information as I get it. (trying to scan in the original build list but having issues as it's so long!). Has a new brown top from topsonline.   The top on it is the front square corner one.   I do have a round corner bar if you're so incline.
