Seller's notes: "Being a 65 year old car, there is no way we can document every tiny imperfection it may have... Paint is excellent but not perfect. Interior looks great, but there are some tears in the fabric of the glove boxes and the shifter is missing its rubber shroud. There may be other minor blemishes in the interior, trim or chrome as well."

Morgan 4/4 Flat Rad. 1949

A very rare opportunity to acquire a super-rare. early Morgan at a bargain price

No idea of this car's past history but when it fell into our hands. we were told the engine had just been rebuilt and it certainly is spotless. runs flawlessly. no smoke. excellent oil pressure…no reason to think other than what we were told.

While these cars came with a ‘Standard Special' 1267cc engine. this car has been fitted with a ‘period' OHV 948cc Morris Minor engine and 4 speed Morris transmission.  VERY COMMON for Morgan 4/4s of the 1946 to 1959 era to be retro fitted with an alternate drive train (in fact. probably 90% of the Series II 4/4s have had their lunk of a 36hp 100E Ford Side valve remove and fitted with a more modern. 95hp post 1967 Ford 1600 OHV engine).  Easy to service. effortless for parts acquisition. similar performance to the original AND if one gets the desire to go faster. easily replaced with a 1275cc BMC Spridget engine.

As the shift linkage was. originally. rather forward and awkward. this car has been modified to have the shifter back in a far better position.  And with the pedals moved forwards a bit. can easily accommodate a 6'3” driver.  Amazing for such a small car.

The rest is pretty straightforward…. original dash and instruments. fairly new tonneau and seats. top frame but no top. chrome is quite good. body and chassis seem solid but being a combination of wood body framing. steel metal exterior. and steel frame. it might take disassembly to peer into the ‘soul' of this car.  However. the last owner was using it on a fairly regular basis and it starts. goes. stops. and runs nicely.

Such little details as folding windshield. twin spare wheels. all original emblems. original headlights…. FAR rarer than (say) an MG TC. easier to service and repair. and a dandy car to have sitting in some (future) collector's garage.

How rare?  One online site of Morgan history shows 183 Morgans built in 1949 and exactly 900 post war 4/4s (4 cylinders. 4 wheels) from 1946 through the beginning of 1950 when Plus 4 production began.  Compared to 10. 00 MG TCs built during the same period.

It is not very much money. it's a lot of fun to go for shorts blasts through the neighborhood. certainly ‘showable' (and how many similar ancient Moggies ever are seen at ANY show?) if one doesn't think this price is gonna get a new owner a Pebble Beach quality restoration.   Lower your expectations a bit and you can have an enormous amount of fun with this car.  And with ZERO worry of any dreadful mechanical costs.

Naturally. this being 65 years old. there is no warrantee or guarantee whatsoever.  Strictly ‘as is. '  But current licensed/registered in the State of Connecticut so NOT a ‘barn find' that was dragged out of some musty cellar.  It actually starts. runs. drives and looks quite nice.

On Feb-25-14 at 08:36:21 PST. seller added the following information:

EDIT: We apologize. but our IT guy made a mistake in the official description of this car; the paint is listed as "excellent" quality but should definitely be listed as "clean and very presentable. " As the car has not reached reserve by the time of this writing. this should not affect any of those who have already bid. but we still apologize for this oversight.
