For Bentley and Rolls-Royce. the star of the 1959 London Motor
Show was their first all alloy V 8 engine to be found in both the
Bentley S 2 and its cousin. the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II. The
engine produced approximately 200 bhp (Bentley and Rolls-Royce would
never quote horsepower figures. preferring to state that it was
adequate) and. by virtue of its alloy construction. weighed the
same as the 4. 8-litre. six-cylinder engine it replaced. The result
was a smoother. more powerful ride. Most Bentley S 2's carried
factory 'Standard Steel Saloon' coachwork satisfying the company's
commercial requirements and in total 2308 Bentley S 2's were
manufactured.
Originally registered on 1 st March 1961. and featuring in the
film 'Body of Evidence' and the U. S. television show 'Leverage'. br/>this delightful Bentley S 2 is in highly original condition and
presents in splendid order. We are advised by the vendor that she
drives exceedingly well. with a quiet. even running engine and a
lovely smooth automatic gearbox. The exterior shows no sign of
having had any repairs and the two-tone pewter and silver paintwork
is in excellent condition other than a couple of minor age related
marks. although KGF 148 A shows no sign of any corrosion. The grey
leather trim is in very good condition. as is the beautiful regal
wooden dashboard and picnic tables. Recent work carried out on her
includes a new brake master cylinder. brake shoes and wheel
cylinders. together with four new white wall tyres. This Bentley S 2
can only be described as remarkable. given its age. condition and
estimate.
