 1953 SUNBEAM ALPINE MK1

Well after almost 30 years of owning this car I think it is time to let someone else enjoy it as my focus has changed to motorcycles and if i had the money to do both i would not sell this car. I found it under a tarp in a tow yard in Vancouver B. C. Canada and over the next 16 years I stripped it bare. and restored it body rotisserie. frame off. to where it wins many shows today. since then it has probably only been driven about 3 thousand miles. here is a list of what has been done. Engine complete. differential. starter. dynamo. brakes. heater. and radiator all rebuilt. the gas tank cleaned and sealed.

All the bodywork and paint was done by 2002 with base/clear and by 2011 I had started to redo some of the imperfections that I knew existed in the body or paint. span >  body lines. oor gaps etc. well it turned out myself and the guys at work could find something small on almost every panel. at this point I should mention that I was the manager of a large body shop and it was slow at this time so despite the car looking almost perfect to some. ten sets of trained eyes could find something. also with the laws changing regarding the environment and paint I knew that to paint a couple of panels I would have to use water based paints so hence the car got another complete documented body and paint job with fenders. doors. bonnet and boot lid off. after the body work touch ups the painter spent 100 hours sanding blocking priming painting and polishing the car all with water based paint so if any accidents happen down the road it can be easily matched. The car has no rust

The wiring was done by myself and I used the old style wiring and soldered every bullet end connector on. it could do with some tidying up under the dash as I left it all open in case of teething problems but they never arose. the gauges had been rebuilt but I didn't want to trust the temp gauge so I have a modern one that swings up under the dash when at a car show.

The trans and overdrive were not rebuilt as they worked well at the time and did not jump out of gear like most. I read that even when rebuilt they would still do that so I left mine alone although now they seem to leak more every year.

The engine has an original style fuel pump and carb which work well and electronic ignition which allows it to fire right up without hesitation.

All the wheel and axle bearings have been changed although I think the right rear is starting to leak. Tires are like new bias type

The interior was missing when I bought the car except for the seats. all was recovered. I made the decision to leave the armrests and pockets out but I have them. the seats I had pleated on both parts to eliminate the unsightly sag that appears over time on the bottom. I also have the ashtry that I didn't install.

A new top was made and sits over the powdercoated frame nicely and the sidescreens have new plexiglass in them although seldom used as I wont drive the car in the rain. I have a new windshield still in the crate and was going to rechrome the frame when installing it.  There is too much info to list here so I will let the photos speak for themselves.

The engine # corresponds to a saloon engine of the correct year. it has had new pistons and rings. timing chain and gears. crank reground. new bearings. new frost plugs. the head has new valves and seats. water pump rebuilt. fuel pump rebuilt. i have a few spare parts that go with the car. gaskets. king pins. fuel pump.

The overdrive unit was not a factory installation on this car. it has given no trouble to date but does leak. this car still has the factory column  shifter that so many have changed over to floor shift

The heater control valve is not installed. it needs a new seal

There is probably more i can add if i remember so ask questions. the car is also for sale locally so i reserve the right to end the auction early
