ONE OF A KIND 1955 BUICK SPECIAL 2 door post for sale.   Investment grade collectible. Built in South Gate plant near LA and sold new in Los Angeles. California. The car has been in southern California it's entire life and was extremely well preserved to begin with.  These SoCal cars are apples and oranges compared to mid-west or east-coast cars. Simply no comparison.  On top of that. it's been kept in running condition until 2008 when the elderly second owner lost driving privileges due to deteriorating vision.  He had done brakes. transmission. upholstery shortly before putting the car into storage in 2008. When it was bought in 2012. it was not running but motor turned freely and car rolled very easily. The car was all original with entire powertrain from the factory.

Late in 2012 I began the complete restoration with engine rebuild and full body and paint. This was not frame-off restoration simply because GOOD. PRESERVED  cars SHOULD NOT require it. And indeed. this car was and is healthy.

Motor was broken down and rebuilt – see photo documentation bellow. It's very important to point out that a correct. NOS{new-old-stock} timing chain was installed. Aftermarket reproduction chain is absolutely non-applicable for '55 264/322 nailhead. This. along the high cost of rebuild. is a reason why these popular Buicks very often end up with engine swaps and lose their originality. You can always restomod the car but it's original only once.

Body was very solid – car has been repainted only once since '55. Original color scheme was black top/beige body/black bottom split {ACA code}. The beige was swapped for silver blue in the '70. Car had been de-trimmed then and done right.

This time around. since it was taken down to metal. I decided to go custom route because original beige did not seem right for such special car. Absolutely awesome choice was made with this ‘secret' scotch/champagne brown metallic. All I'm gonna say is that it's off of 2013 luxury export. It's absolutely gorgeous color and the whole car gets tremendous feedback. People everywhere tell me the car is stunning. and they're not wrong. You'll never see another Buick like this. Whoever ends up buying the car will of course get about a half a gallon of each left over paint with the codes to match.

Back to body – paint was stripped. very little issues were found and absolutely zero rust. The old paint had zero bubbles anywhere. Super solid. All panels are original except the driver front fender was replaced for better. I still have the original undamaged fender. Original floors. completely intact.  Entire bottom has very thick factory undercoating and is absolutely solid. Car spend 3 months in body shop and received base coat. clear coat. color sand and buff to high gloss – surface is like wet butter. Dash and all interior trim was also repainted to match exterior and again. turned out just glorious.

After the lengthy engine rebuild it was successfully fired up in October 2013 and went on the test drive almost immediately. for the first time since 2008{see  3rd video}. It purrs like a kitten. Starts very easily cold or warm.  Tranny is Dynaflow and 'smooth' does not begin to describe how it works. Just seamless. I have about 400 miles on it in last 2 months. Miniscule trans leaks {meaning few drops make it on the ground}. Minimal whistle/whine under full throttle acceleration. Otherwise super quiet and super smooth. No slip whatsoever in any gear. solid.

Brakes had been replaced shortly before the car was put away and sure enough. after small adjustment they do their job properly and confidently. New lines front to back.

Gas tank was clean but hot-tanked and resealed nevertheless. Gas gauge does not work properly. Reading about it on forums a lot - bad ground somewhere or so.

New power steering pump was fitter and steering is very light-weight.

Brand new Coker white wall tires wrap the Dayton true-knock-off  wire wheels.

Original windows in great shape. driver and passenger front glass is new. Rest of glass shows light imperfections here and there if scrutinized.

Original radiator was swapped for custom-made aluminum.   This is also noteworthy because there's no place to just buy one. But it's worth the extra expense to have cool running engine plant.

Custom made brand new defroster/heater core was fitted and works great. Under seat heater core is in great shape and heater works great as well. that's also rare.

Stock radio was replaced for custom-made aftermarket with iPod plug. new dash speaker and two 9' speakers in the back - sounds super.

Door. trunk. ignition and glove box locks are original and work great with the original all-in-one key.

Brand new correct loop and color carpet was installed on top of insulation.

Upholstery was fresh in 2008 and came out like new after simple cleaning.

Headliner is aftermarket and also in new-condition.

The car has a ton of chrome! Front to back it has been redone {BIG $$$$}!!!

All lights and illumination works. horn works. both heaters work. trunk light works. Odometer. speedometer. oil pressure gauges work. Aftermarket temp gauge was installed to ensure proper reading. The car never runs hot.

Courtesy light is not operational at the moment– actually it's lit at all times {haven't had time to trace it- probably door switch} so the bulb is removed for now.

The car rides very smooth. engine pulls great. Do not expect sporty performance of the ground but once it's moving it has great power. ‘Go anywhere' car as documented in the videos. And remember. it's just a step down from Cadillac in the GM line up {Chevy. Olds. Buick and Caddy}.

Long story short. the car looks fantastic. gets tremendous attention and if you ask me. it's worth twice the asking price. Very rare and more so with original rebuild drivetrain. If you can find the same car with the same detail and look. as documented as mine for less money. buy it! These cars are well known but very rare. You come to a sow where there be 50 Belairs and 1 or 2 Buicks.

I'm a real seller looking for real buyer. I do not. however. need to sell. I'm looking for buyer-owner. not a middle-man if I can have my choice.

Please. feel free to contact me at 949-491-433O with any questions. but only after you've seen all of the +/- 300 photos and watched the videos. I've prepared the listing to be self-explanatory. You should know what you're looking at if you know anything about cars. I have another 500pics and videos of the process and it all comes included with the sale as a necessary piece of it's history. More often than not. restored cars do not have any documentation of their condition before/during the restoration. sometimes for good reason. With this car you can see what it looked like to begin with {NOT a barn-find or any kind of salvage!} and what was done to it and how. Seeing is believing :-)

I'm not a dealer. I don't flip cars. I restore cars for myself and enjoy the process from A to Z and especially finding the right long-term owner for them. I keep in touch with most of my buyers as I love these cars. See my youtube videos .

And I love this Buick. I'm looking for someone who will too. I know a lot about it and no doubt the buyer will want to be in touch after the sale. so it's a relationship of sorts. And a bad way to start that relationship is with an insulting offer. I understand the urge but no ridiculous offers are necessary. If you feel you still have to negotiate but cannot make reasonable offer. I suggest you buy a project and restore it yourself. I know for a fact that if you value your time. it's better to buy finished. proven car instead of a project. ESPECIALLY Buick. nbsp;trust me on this one. Thank you J

Disclaimer: Car. although restored. is 59 years old and therefore considered used. As such. it is sold with no warranty. AS-IS. Clear title in hands with current regstation till 2014.
