1978 Fiat 124 Spider Convertible with PA Antique Plates for sale
Current customer rating: (370 votes ) based onI'm looking to sell my 1978 Fiat convertible. I've had it for 4 years and it's been a great and fun car but I think that it's time for someone else to enjoy it. I had this car equipped with Antique PA plates and it's my understanding that the plates transfer with the car in the state of Pennsylvania. If you want to use it as a daily driver you could but not having inspections or registration fees is pretty nice. There is 99. 00 ish original miles (I would have to check the exact number of miles but it hasn't rolled over to 100. 00 yet and the title says mileage exempt) on it and the entire time I've had it I've never had a problem starting or driving it (Even after the winter or sitting it usually just required a little juice in the battery). I've replaced the top - which I literally never put up. The Fiat has been kept in the garage and the top has been under the boot for the last two years. It could probably use a good dusting off. The radiator has been replaced from the original and is newer. I recently had the switch replaced so the fan etc are running very well. I also just had the brakes bled and a caliper replaced. Also the wiring around the distributor cap was looking rough so that was all replaced as well along with the spark plugs. There is some rust around the corners of the doors but could easily be fixed if you take a little time to do it. There was some rust on the bottom but I have it reinforced with some new steel and covered which I included in the pictures. The battery is fairly new also. I replaced the carpet and the covering on the passenger side. I have drivers side carpet and seat covering also (it was an afternoon project) so the new owner could put that in whenever they felt like it. the original seat and carpet are on the drivers side in the meantime anyway. I also have the original rims for the car. they weren't that attractive but the next person can have them or I'll throw them out. All in all this is a solid little car. Family members with much more expensive and complex antique cars have even commented on this cars reliability and how well it has held up.
The not so great:
The next owner may want to replace the ignition switch. The one that is in there I've just dealt with but it was a generic replacement so sometimes you have to put the key in a few times to turn it. It doesn't effect how the key runs or anything so I haven't replaced it yet but a mechanic or yourself should be able to put a new one in for $50. 00 or so.
The paint - when washed and wax looks pretty good. In the pictures I took before I put it away for the winter you can see that it shines when washed and waxed but as far as I can tell this paint is the original paint. The car was garage kept by me and the person before me so the paint has held up reasonably well but it's time for a new coat.
This car has run very well mechanically. I took it to my mechanic and asked - what I should do to get this car in order so I can enjoy it worry free for another 4 years and the above work is what he did. My plan was to start working on the rust spots on the doors etc that I pictured and throw on a fresh coat of paint after I put in the new carpet and seat covering. I'm going to be moving to a new house though and have a new baby and need to dedicate more time to that. This car would be perfect for someone who wants a car they can enjoy right away but has the time to make the improvements.
Let me know if you have any questions. The buyer will be responsible for picking up the car.
