1976 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

You're looking at a 1976 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 with just over 73. 00 original miles that was built in February 1976. The '76 model year FJ40's came with the bigger 4. 2 liter motor as well as front disc brakes standard. The FJ40's were updated in '74 with among other things. front bucket seats. more modern door handles and interior door panels. This one has the rear ambulance doors that became standard in 1975 for easy entry of passengers. and the side facing flip up jump seats allow for extra room when not carrying passengers. I bought this as a third car. and primarily for my daughter to drive to school. Now that she's headed to college we don't need this one sitting around the house anymore. I purchased it in Colorado and. except for replacing the alternator. drove the 900 miles home without incident.

Under the hood- The original 2F inline six cylinder was professionally rebuilt in 2010. The motor has about 7. 00 miles on it since the rebuild and proper break in procedures were followed. While the motor was out I took the opportunity to clean up the engine compartment and many of the under hood components. They were bead blasted and painted to bring back the original stock appearance and function. The 2F is mated to the factory 4 speed transmission and transfer case which also have new seals. The master cylinder was replaced in 2010.

Steering- I added power steering using a genuine Toyota ps gear box from a later model FJ40 and a Saginaw PS pump. The tires are 31x10. 5x15 B. F. Goodrich All Terrain AT's wrapped around 15x8 aluminum wheels. balanced and aligned. All new tie rod ends and polyurethane bushings round out the steering improvements that allow this FJ40 to cruise straight down the highway with very little need for steering input and as secure a ride as my 2005 Yukon.

Body- This FJ40 was repainted with a base coat clear coat system about 9 to 10 years ago by the previous owner. It has been garage kept ever since. The paint is still in very good condition. but is beginning to show its age. The interior floor and wheel wells were coated with a black polyurethane bed liner. and is still in great condition. The body is straight as the day it came from Toyota. I can see where rust was repaired by the previous owner. but it was done very well and is not beginning to rust again. That said there are some spots of surface rust that is easily kept at bay by a little wax. The preview owner also had a softop which I do not have. But to attach it there were snaps attached to the top lip of the body tub. They were removed to put the hard top back on and are completely covered by the top. But the holes are still there and could be used again should you decide to put a softop back on. I do have a bikini top that attaches to the windshield and runs to the rollbar for some protection when running without the top for summer fun. The seatbelt attachment points were relocated to the factory roll bar to facilitate removing the hard top if you desire. The front bumper is an aftermarket basket bumper with a built in 2” receiver hitch. If it's not to your liking I still have a factory bumper I can put on in its place.

Interior- As time would allow I restored. reconditioned or refurbished many of the interior components. First of all I restored the front heater having the core tanked and pressure tested. I bead blasted the case and added new seals washers and ducts to allow it to function as it did fresh from the factory. I also added factory rear heat which when the heat is on full will keep even the coldest family member toasty warm. I added the difficult to find headrests for added safety. The seat brackets. center console and many miscellaneous parts were bead blasted and painted to preserve the factory look and feel as much as possible. I rebuilt the gauge cluster making sure all the gauges look and operated as good as new. and added a small tachometer. I added an LED interior light that is concealed in the lip of the top providing excellent indirect lighting to the whole interior. On top of the bed liner is a 4 piece carpet set from Spector Off Road that covers the transmission hump. both front foot wells and the rear cargo area. Under the drivers it was missing the jack and tool set. so I found one from a late model landcruiser and added it. Countless hours have gone into making this a reliable and enjoyable vehicle to drive everyday. She's not a show vehicle. but it wouldn't take much to turn her into one. Also. what shows up in the pictures as a tear on the back on the passenger seat has been fixed.

Known Issues- This is a small section because any issues I've found have been dealt with accordingly. However there are a couple things to make sure you are aware. The latch on the spare is loose so I put a bolt with a wing nut through it to keep it closed. There is a small hole in the side of the driver seat. The parking brake light comes on sometimes even when the brake is off. The parking brake needs adjustment so that may be the cause. There are a couple areas where you can see the original yellow color such as behind the dash. inside the glove box that was never painted and another spot on the gas tank cover. On the back corner there is a spot as shown in the pictures where the paint is cracked and coming up. I have managed it with wax and kid gloves. The rear view mirror vibrates. so just like the wobbly table leg. I put some paper behind it to keep it from shaking. If you have any specific questions don't hesitate to email me here. I will respond as quickly as possible. I have done my best to describe my FJ40 fairly. If you are expecting a perfect Landcruiser. you need to buy one of the many that have sold for $60. 00 plus. But where's the fun in having a car you're too afraid to take out and really enjoy. I would be glad to meet with someone for an inspection or test drive.
