SELLER REMARKS

1965 Pontiac GTO convertible with a 4-speed. Got your attention? This one also wears its original Mayfair Maize over black color combination and has a ton of recent work to make it run and drive like the legendary muscle car you'd expect.

Thankfully they didn't turn this into yet another red or blue GTO. instead keeping the factory code Y Mayfair Maize color choice. It's the perfect choice for the GTO. capturing its performance/luxury personality and keeping it very subtle. There's a tiger underneath. of course. but at first glance. this Goat is definitely a sleeper. Paint and bodywork are excellent. with a sharp definition of the lower body molding that wraps around the wheel arches. and the crease down the center of the hood is sharp enough to give you a paper cut. The GTO wasn't much for chrome and trim. but the forward-canted headlights give it the impression of motion and stacking them was one of GM's better design ideas in the mid-60s. It's rumored that the '65 GTO had the most expensive taillights ever created so it's fortunate that these remain in excellent condition with bright. sharp lines running horizontally across their faces. Chrome. stainless. and plastic parts are all in very. very good shape.

Diagonal pleats on the seats instantly identify Pontiac interiors. and the fresh black buckets and reupholstered back seat look fantastic. It's kind of cool to see a GTO without a center console. with the new Hurst cue ball shifter sticking out of the transmission tunnel without any additional ornamentation. The wood-rimmed wheel is a Pontiac style favorite and the four round gauge pods in the dash will look familiar to anyone who's driven something from the Excitement Division in the '60s. Fresh carpets. restored door panels. and an AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo hidden in the glove box mean this iconic GTO is ready to cruise. There's also a fresh heater core in the dash and a new wiring harness managing the rest. plus a black power convertible top that fits superbly.

GTOs are legendary thanks to the combination of power and grace. and the 389 cubic inch V8 found this car's hood definitely delivers plenty of both. Recently rebuilt. the Tri-Power 389 looks quite authentic in Pontiac Turquoise paint and chrome valve covers. plus individual air cleaners for each of the carbs. A Comp Cams camshaft inside surely frees up a few extra horsepower. as do the HO exhaust manifolds and stainless steel X-pipe exhaust system. which sounds amazing. The transmission was rebuilt about 400 miles ago and feeds a rebuilt 10-bolt rear with a fresh Posi unit inside. Two years ago. all the shocks. bushings. and sway bars were replaced and there's a new power steering pump up front on the engine. so this car really does ride and handle like it should. 15-inch Rallys have been installed for a classic muscle car look and wear fat 225/60/15 Uniroyal radials at all four corners.

Documented with photos and even video footage of the restoration. plus an original owner's manual. this GTO is the kind of car we all secretly dream of owning. Call today!
