1973 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 for sale
Current customer rating: (76 votes ) based onBODY OVERVIEW: The body on this Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser is very nice considering it's rock crawler modification 's clean and straight-something of a rarity on these old FJs! As can be seen from the photos, the frame has been stretched for optimal rock crawling/offroad axle placement and for stability.
PAINT CONDITION OVERVIEW: This truck was repainted in late 2020, and the medium gray looks excellent on this thing! It has a great shine to it, and a surprising amount of depth given the color choice. This old thing is sure to stand out in a crowd! Heck, this thing is sure to stand UP in a crowd!
INTERIOR CONDITION OVERVIEW: The interior condition is perhaps the most pleasantly surprising aspect of this truck. Purpose-built offroad rigs aren't known for their luxurious interiors, and this FJ isn't really an exception. However, the black cloth bucket seats are comfortable and in great condition, and the addition of carpeting to the trunk area gifts the vehicle a more comfortable feel. The knobs, buttons, steering wheel, etc. are all in used but good condition. Plus it has a roll cage welded in! This FJ also comes with both solid and tube doors, which can be easily exchanged depending on the driver's mood. Last but not least, the inside of the body tub has been coated in bedliner to increase ruggedness.
MECHANICAL OVERVIEW: Under the hood is a Toyota 3.9 liter inline 6-cylinder, which would've been the factory engine for this vehicle. Like any Toyota worth it's reputation, the six cylinder springs to life at a turn of the key and runs very smoothly. While this engine may not be a big, V8 powerhouse, it is more than adequate for this type of vehicle and torquey enough to be fun. The 4-speed manual transmission shifts as smoothly as one can expect of a utility vehicle, and would certainly be the preferred choice in transmission for anyone looking to do any sort of offroading. This Toyota runs, drives, and stops great!
WHAT YOU'LL LOVE ABOUT THIS CAR: This is a good, honest, offroad-ready Toyota and the pure simplicity of these FJs is very appealing. This one is easy on the eyes and fun to drive, so it leaves little to be desired!
WHAT YOU MIGHT HATE ABOUT THIS CAR: The stretched frame look and purpose isn't for everyone. While we think it adds to this Toyota's offroad capabilities, this may not be the right FJ40 for someone looking for one somewhat true to original style.
DOES IT NEED ANYTHING? There are a variety of non-essential items not working, since this Toyota has previously been a dedicated offroad vehicle. These items include the horn, heater, speedometer, fuel gauge, reverse lights, and parking brake.
WHAT BUYER IS LOOKING FOR THIS CAR? Anyone who has been seeking a clean, unique, capable, fun offroader should give this FJ40 a serious look!
