1988 Mk1 Mitsubishi BBR Shogun Turbo - Brodie Brittain Racing Mogul 240

When Mitsubishi pulled out of racing in 1986, Brodie Brittain Racing (David Brodie and Ken Brittain were Mitsubishi's racing team managers up to 1987) decided to put their hard won circuit knowledge to good use by marketing a world-wide range of conversions for Mitsubishi vehicles. These ranged from electronic and re-boost modifications for the production turbo vehicles right up to the Shogun Turbo kit, creating the mighty Mogul 240 Shogun, an off-roader with a performance better than most contemporary 'sports' cars! Over 400 of these vehicles were built, this example may well be the only one left and in my opinion is worth saving.

Some quotes from the contemporary Motoring Press;

“One of the most remarkable vehicles we've tested in years.” Performance Car

“Overtaking manoeuvres can be executed smoothly and cleanly with bursts of power acceleration I found quite startling.” Off Road and 4 Wheel Drive

“Enough driver appeal to make enthusiasts wear a permanent grin, not to say grow devilish horns.” Country Life

Copies of the original magazines, where the car is tested against the likes of the Overfinch Range Rover, are included in the comprehensive history file.

The car advertised here is fairly well known in Mk1 Shogun/Pajero circles and was the subject of a 19 page thread on Pistonheads Gassing Station, 1988 Mitsubishi Shogun 2.6 HT BBR Turbo - Page 1 - Readers' Cars - PistonHeads UK

It comes with a comprehensive history file which indicates that since 2013 over £20,000 has been spent on it replacing many of the mechanical parts.

You will notice from the Pistonheads thread that the car was also re-painted in 2019 and colour changed to Land Rover Santorini Black, period style gold decals have also been applied. This was a reasonable job but there is some bubbling along the roof line and on one arch. These are also some scratches on the rear offside panel but overall the car still presents well.

Period extras include;

Cobra seats (aftermarket option)

Wolfrace turbine style 15" Alloy wheels (factory option)

Wood Rim Italvolante Steering Wheel (factory option)

The car is currently taxed and insured and can be driven, but no test drives without proof of insurance. It has an MOT until 04-12-2022 and is currently on 190,319 miles which may rise slightly as it's in weekly use.

Interesting alternative to an early Range Rover or G Wagon for a fraction of the price. More practical than a Defender in some respects.

Obviously viewing is recommended and please if you make an offer follow it up with a message. Happy to help with export etc if required.

**OK, I've had this advertised for just over a week and the page has had over 10,000 views, there are also currently over 400 people "watching", which is great!

A couple of points keep recurring though, it's obvious that some people haven't read the description in full, or at all in some cases, as they are asking questions that have been answered already in the description. Please read the description and if possible the 19 pages on Pistonheads if you're interested in buying the vehicle.

Also, if you make an offer, please follow it up with a note as to how you wish to proceed if we haven't spoken. If your offer is accepted I will regard it as a contract to buy, not just view the vehicle. Viewings are welcome and encouraged before you make an offer.

I have a short walk around video that I can send via WhatsApp if required.

Lastly Pistonheads have picked up on the sale and written an editorial available here,
