Selling my lovingly restored 1980 Toyota 4wd Pickup. I do this as a hobby, and have been restoring vehicles for many many years. I've been published in magazines like Legendary Ford and Hemmings Muscle Machines for other projects in the past. I've owned this truck over about a one year period, and it's been an on and off project for about half of that time. Windshield and back glass were pulled to restore only leaving wing windows in place. This was not a frame off restoration due to the frame already being in really beautiful condition (see pics). The frame has a really nice black luster to it still, removing the bed and cab seemed moot. All bolt on items on the exterior were removed prior to repaint. There were very few dings on this truck and no rust present at time of body work and paint. New like factory single stage yellow Valspar was the paint of choice, along with primer and sealer. James Dean Creations provided the oem style decals. New OEM toyota FJ40 wheels and caps were used, those were a factory option on this year. I opted for 31” Cooper AT3 all terrain tires. They ride amazing, and since they are a little taller than factory they deliver another 5 mph on the freeway than the 225/75/15 tires it came with stock. That's somewhat important on a 4 gear truck since 55 mph comes in at 3000 rpm. 60 is nicer imo at those rpms. The inside of the bed I had done professionally with a Rhino Liner in black. This isn't a home spray in kit which is done cold, and that never lasts. This a sprayed hot Rhino Liner spray in bed liner, do it right the first time and once is my preferred method. The black inside and over the rail on the bed accents with the black wheels and decals very well. I think most people really enjoy the colors on this particular truck, it's my most liked pickup on instagram to date. You can find me at radtoyotas on there. Mechanically the truck is very sound. It starts nicely even after a longer slumber. The carb works perfectly including the choke, it's not a Chinese replacement I migI did a full major tune up using NGK plugs, premium cap/rotor and plug wires. I had the radiator professionally disassembled, rodded, and cleaned. The truck also has new hoses, coolant, and rad cap. Starter was a little slow, so I replaced with a new unit. I also replaced the three accessory drive belts, and readjusted tension on them recently. Front end is tight, and power steering works very well. It tracks very well, and there is no slop at all in the steering. It's truly a pleasure to drive. The interior was in really nice shape when I received this one. Interior was pulled out and cleaned. I replaced the factory rubber floor due to some heel damage drivers side, and installed an ACC carpet kit in it after cleaning the floor pan well. Dash is completely stock on the front as you can tell, no radio mods or additional accessories added. Heater controls glide nicely and work well, radio works well including the backlight behind the dial and factory speakers. This truck was obviously always loved by its two previous owners, it's apparent by how the inside of it still looks 41 years later. All in all the truck is somewhat of a dream. It drives absolutely amazing, and looks near perfect top and bottom. Need a cool weekend work horse, yes it will do the job. Show and go, or daily driver. Yep, it has you covered there. Need something that's just out of the ordinary cool, and need 4wd on occasion. Yes to that as well. Obviously this isn't a truck you're going to cage and beat the hell out of. People will follow you everywhere to ask you to sell, or just tell you how amazing it looks. I know, because I've put about 2500 post restoration miles on it. People trip over themselves when they see it and it's photographed every time I take it out. It makes an amazing second vehicle and conversation piece. The odometer is sitting at 18,488 and has been around one time only. It looks like it has 18k original miles. But, in fact it has 118k original miles. Which is still remarkably low for a Toyota. Options list is as follows. FJ wheels, long bed, decals, am/fm radio, sliding rear glass, tachometer (works intermittently), cloth seat, full carpet, 20R with 4 speed manual trans (excellent clutch), hi/low transfer case, aisin manual locking hubs, power steering, and tow mirrors. As stated, sometimes the tach doesn't work. That's pretty common on the 79-81 trucks. It seems to work more often when driven often. It doesn't effect drivability obviously. The only other thing worth mentioning is when starting the key has to be jiggled a little to turn the ignition switch because it has a little wear in it. It works fine, but still though I should mention it. I opted to not replace since the ignition key also matches the door locks. All other systems and accessories work as they should. All bulbs are in working order including the dome. The truck can be driven absolutely anywhere, I've taken it on more than one 2-3 hour trips. California buyer will have a smog check included with the sale, it has always passed the state test being a Southern California truck. I prefer cash if an in person transaction is being done. If you are shipping I will cooperate with your shipper, or can put you in touch with one. I will accept a wire transfer or cashiers check from a reputable institution if you are shipping and won't be here in person. Any other instrument besides cash will need to clear before I release the truck or title. Like I said though, cash is what's preferred. Clean clear title is in hand, and the truck is ready for its new owner now. Email through eBay with your questions. Leave a name and phone number if you'd like a call back. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have over the phone. I'm easy to deal with, you be as well. Serious inquires only please, let's definitely not waste each other's time. Airport pick up may be possible depending. San Jose or Monterey are the closest airports to me. Thanks for reading entirely.
