While you will find the masses prefer the Getrag 5-speed for the extra gear, many enthusiasts including myself prefer the 4-speed for several reasons… First gear is much more useful/functional, there is only a few hundred rpm difference at highway speed, the shifts are more vintage/positive, and it's a better/stronger transmission, that's why the Muncie 4-speed is the preferred transmission for higher horsepower engine swaps. All the 1986.5 to 1988 GT's have the Getrag 5-speed, so the early production 1986 GT is the only fastback GT's to come equipped with the Muncie 4-speed.Another nice touch is the rear wing/spoiler delete. While the rear wing is an ordered option on the GT, approximately 20% of buyers preferred it without. The fastback GT without rear wing has a cleaner European styling appearance which I'm partial to. Approximate production numbers for 1986 are 84,000 Fiero's, 17,665 GT's, 5,228 white Fiero's, 1000 white GT's, and 200 white GT's without rear wing/spoiler. It also doesn't have rear defrost which is a bonus, so no ugly lines in the rear glass. Most of the credit for this cars preservation belongs to the original owner who owned the car from 1986 to 2018 in Colorado. He used it as his new fair-weather commuter the first 4 years (indoor parking at home & work) and once it was paid off it became his weekend toy in 1990. From 1990 to 2018 it was exercised in the summer a few hundred to a few thousand miles yearly. The car then exchanged hands between two friends, each putting a few hundred miles on between 2019 and 2020. When I acquired the car last winter it was in excellent original condition, but I went through everything to bring it up to top-notch status in preparation for summer where I drove 1200 enjoyable trouble-free miles almost every weekend from May thru October. (Note: Yearly mileage increments are verified on CarFax but not AutoCheck)********* Condition *********This is not your average GT and for the discerning buyer. The overall condition is stunning for 80k miles, always loved and garage kept. I see Fiero's all the time with 10k to 20k miles that look like they have 80k miles, some with rusty engine components. This GT with 80k miles looks and feels like it has 20k miles, a testimony to its pampered ownership. It looks, runs, and drives like a 3-year-old Fiero and was recently serviced correctly with top-tier parts.Paint is original and in beautiful condition. It's slippery smooth, very shiny, and holding up extremely well for its age. There are no major defects, only a few minor nicks and minuscule imperfections. The front bumper has a few marks on it and wear spots where the factory front license plate holder was rubbing on the paint, so I put 2 silver decals over the flaws. I've had many people tell me the paint is mint, but I'll be more conservative and rate it a 9 out of 10. The silver lower body color is also original paint and has been touched up in a few places.Interior is original and amazing, again a 9 out of 10, only very minor wear on the driver's side bolster and minimal warping. I added Lloyd's premium floor mats, a Euro shifter with leather boot because the original shifter is awful, and a fully functional late 80's Delco premium audio unit which complements the Fiero interior better than the original 2-knob unit. The original headliner is starting to pull away in a few places, typical and expected. Original weather seals are in phenomenal condition, only the trunk seal needed replaced due to the originals always tearing.Undercarriage is in beautiful rust-free condition, control arms still black with assembly line markings and the photos speak for themselves. The rubber bushings, coolant tubes, suspension components all defy their age. It still breaths through its original stainless exhaust system, sounds terrific, and the original convertor was replaced with a Catco unit. The original diamond spoke wheels were stripped and repainted using etching primer for proper adhesion to aluminum. All these factory wheels were Made in Germany for GM and the original gray paint never matched the ground effects even when they were new, they were a slightly lighter gray with minimal metallic, so these professionally restored wheels match better than stock. The wheels are wrapped with new USA made Cooper tires in the proper H-rated staggered sizes. In the late 1980's my occupation was Engine Performance Specialist and I was tuning engines for all makes/models 60 hours a week, so this engine is meticulously tuned and runs perfect under all conditions. The original owner was obviously strict with oil changes, evident by clean internals and the oil looking crystal clear on the dipstick even after 300 miles of driving after oil change. I treated the engine with following niceties... proper top-shelf oil for 80's flat tappet cam with cat, all new filters, spotless throttle body and IAC valve, new EGR tube, GM NOS oil switch, rebuilt distributor including module & pickup with GM NOS parts and new o-ring, quality O2 sensor, GM NOS air temp sensor, rebuilt torque strut using original GM serrated sleeves, re-calibrated temp/fuel gauges, performed temp gauge peg factory flaw fix, and installed a 210 fan switch (214 on & 204 off) to replace the factory 235 fan switch. The original window sticker advertised 17 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, but I average 22-23 mpg driving suburban stop/go and country roads. By the way, no leaks or smoke because it never sat unused for any length of time.Shifting is effortless, tight, and smooth (for a Muncie). Properly working clutch hydraulics is critical for a Fiero, the 7” of pedal travel equals 1~1/8” of slave travel, so everything must be working correctly to get fully disengagement of the clutch and prevent premature wear. This summer the original master cylinder started to seep and original slave cylinder was still good (amazing) so I overhauled all the clutch hydraulics. The GM units are no longer available and the ones sold at parts stores are garbage (both single o-ring), so I replaced both with quality rodneydickman.com dual o-ring units. I also replaced the original aluminum slave bracket with a steel one because they are known for breaking (mine was cracked). Since I was doing all that I replaced the pedal bushings and pedal pads, so everything is like-new again.Last but not least, I flushed the brake fluid with DOT3, lubed suspension, fixed any little fussy things, water pump and coolant were replaced in recent years, and battery is 3 years old. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things. Again, it looks, runs, drives, and feels like a 3-year-old Fiero, a true time capsule. The only thing I know it needs is the original speakers are tired and the a/c needs recharge (assume slow leak). Its still using R12 and I have 2 cans in storage with filler tool, so if I can locate them before the sale it will be recharged before transfer to new owner.********* Final Thoughts *********I'm not a dealer or a flipper, I've been in the old car hobby for almost 40 years, so when I buy an old car it's for myself to drive and enjoy. I was an auto tech for a long time, specialized in engine systems and exotics in this era, and was vo-tech trained on Fiero's in 1985. This is my third Fiero GT in the past 25 years, it's just as nice as my low-mile 87/88 GT's were and its my favorite out of the three. I drove this GT almost every weekend this year from May thru October and put 1200 trouble-free miles on it. I don't want to sell it and I don't have to sell it, but we're moving and it would be one less thing I have to deal with. What makes this GT difficult to sell is because I know how hard it is to replace it. Sure, there are many nice low mileage Fiero's that come up for sale, but majority have had little done and/or not been driven regularly over the decades so they need a lot of service work make them truly turn-key road worthy, and the ones that are serviced are often using inferior unreliable parts. There is no substitute for an old car that was loved/driven/maintained yearly its entire life, and had ideal climate/storage conditions with no salt exposure preserving the undercarriage, compartments, and rubber components. So if you're a collector looking for a low-mileage investment this is not your car, but if you're looking for a really nice unique GT that is original/stock to drive and enjoy on weekends it doesn't get much better than this. I'm asking $13,500 or the best reasonable human that comes along, because I've seen many 86-87 GT's with similar mileage sell for $9k this year that needed service mentioned above, and they were not anywhere near this level of condition. The person you're selling/buying a special car to/from is equally as important as the car itself, so money is not my deciding factor. Sincere inquiries only please, thank you.********* Photographs *********CLICK HERE TO VIEW PHOTO GALLERY WITH 80 PICTURES********* Terms of Sale *********FACTS: This vehicle is being sold as-is, where is.
