1929 Nash 4-Door Sedan
Nash Motors Company was an American automobile manufacturer based in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in the United States from 1916 to 1937. From 1937 to 1954, Nash Motors was the automotive division of the Nash-Kelvinator Corporation. Nash production continued from 1954 to 1957 after the creation of American Motors Corporation. Nash pioneered some important innovations; in 1938 they debuted the heating and ventilation system, which is still used today, unibody construction in 1941, seat belts in 1950, a US built compact car in 1950, and muscle cars in 1957.
From an earlier purchase in 1969, our consignor set to work out this everyday Nash from 1929 into a custom street rod. By the looks of things, it was successful, now all rust free and bathed in beautiful blue with a tan canvas hardtop covering. Add in a custom tweed and naugahyde interior, and a worked 350ci crate motor and we can say let's dash to this Nash.
ExteriorAll straight steel which has been shaved of any hood ornaments and door handles, with well minded gaps, and bathed in the deep end of the pool blue. A simple front grille has a bar running horizontally across it on which is mounted a single headlight on either side. Below the radiator is a front mounted tank and no bumper. A cowled hood, front windshield visor, and curvaceous fenders which meet in the center of the car to form a running board are all bathed in the blue. On top, due to stamping constraints of the era, a canvas top is now covering the roof, and it's looking in very nice condition. On the back is a leather covered trunk mounted to a luggage rack, and a small vertical bumper is seen on either side of this rack. Taillights on stalks and dual exhaust pin shiny stainless peek out from underneath the trunk. 15-inch Billet Premier Eagle wheels are on all 4 corners wrapped in radial rubber.
InteriorThe all modern and comfortable interior we see caramel Naugahyde bordering tan tweed broadcloth for the inserts on the front buckets and rear bench. This is also used for the door panels and headliner and is all in caramel or tan. The dash which has a blue metal background is also covered in the naugahyde. In the center of the dash is a machined swirl pattern oval shape with a lineup of essential gauges. This is fronted by a Billet Specialties leather wrapped steering wheel on a tilt column. Some extra creature comforts have been installed like Vintage A/C, power windows, a Lokar shifter all mounted in a custom Naugahyde covered center panel. Mounted into the ceiling is a metal upper console which houses the AM/FM/CD player. Nice clean carpeting covers the floors and is a darker tan.
DrivetrainUnder the hood is a 350ci engine courtesy of Chevrolet. It is presented in a fully machined look and polished on all surfaces. Inside it has been bored over .030 and has Sealed Power Cast pistons and a Wolverine camshaft .420i/443e lift 204i/214e duration. World Products Sr heads in 76cc configuration are on either side and a 600cfm Edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold feed the mill. On the back is a TH350 3 speed automatic transmission which pushes power to a Ford 9-inch rear axle. Even the B & M air cleaner covering is polished.
UndercarriageAll very solid and no rust seen within miles of this undercarriage. A full stainless steel glass pack style exhaust is taking the spent gases from the headers and throwing them to the back of the car. Upfront a TCI Mustang II front suspension is on with power disc braking, and on back a 4 link with coilovers and a panhard bar along with power drum braking is on. Nicely done!
Drive-AbilityI was anxious to drive this streeted because how often do you get to drive a 1929 Nash?? This car fired right up and sounded fab! It drove very nicely with power steering, and the easy shifting automatic transmission. It handled beautifully and all the creature comforts were working just great.
A not often seen Nash from 1929. This one has all straight blue painted steel, nice lines, a powerful mill and a comfy interior. As noted, come in and make a dash for this Nash!
