I really hate to sell this car but I have others I want to drive so it is time to move this one out.

It is 1 of 327 440 4 speed '68 GTX ragtops. How many are left after all these years nobody knows but the generally accepted  figure is about 30% which means less than a 100 still exist.

Believe it or not this car was pulled out of a junkyard and still has all its original frame rails, torsion bar cross member, rear shock cross member, firewall, doors, inner and outer fenders, radiator core support, rockers and everything under and behind rear seat. All the structural areas are original.  Only the floors and quarters were replaced.

The entire body was acid dipped so there was not a spec of rust remaining and then went thru a complete, professional, rotisserie restoration. The cost of primers, sealers and paint products alone was $5000.  All PPG from the bare metal up. The paint was DBC base/clear coat 2 stage system.

The engine is a date code correct '68 D440 HP2 block freshly bored .030 with new pistons, bearings rings, cam kit, ect. Heads are the correct 906 variety. The trans is a date correct '68 18 spline hemi box. The intake (2806178) and exhaust manifolds (2806900-2843992), carb (4428), bellhousing (2892262),  radiator (2898047-recored), 3:54 dana rear, 3 speed wiper motor (2889982), steering box )9267262) and fan (2863216) are all original to the car.  Every item was painstakingly rebuilt and restored back to the original colors and finishes.

The exhaust manifolds were coated by Polydyn. It is a 2000 degree coating that will last a lifetime not the $10 rattle can stuff that burns off in 90 days.

The car was restored faithfully back to the original options per the original fender tag. The red with white interior is arguably the best color combo u could get and it looks fantastic on this car.

Both body stampings match the order number on original fender tag and dash vin plate matches title. This IS the original GTX body not a Satellite rebody. I have many pix throughout the restoration process including fresh out the dipping tank. I also added frame stiffeners tying the front to the rear frame rails for added rigidity as ragtops are prone to twisting especially when it's a 440 4 speed car.

Wheels are the iconic 15” torque thrust with new tires.  The fit and finish is superior to factory new. The gaps at hood/door/cowl are perfect. The car is an absolute pleasure to drive.  The fuel and brake lines are stainless so no worries about future corrosion and of course it has a new fuel tank and pickup. Distributor has a Petronix module so no points to hassle with. Correct, date coded plug wires with all the proper wire looms. Power steering, power top and power drum brakes. Every system, part, component on the car is new or rebuilt. No expense was spared in restoring this classic and it has approx 2000 miles on it since restored.

If big block ragtop muscle is your passion don't miss this one. It may be a long time before another one of this caliber comes along.
