If you are interested in a wonderful brass era collector car, consider my 1910 Buick Model 16 Surrey. I purchased it and another Buick from an estate of the restorer of this Buick. He was a respected craftsman when it came to restorations and I tour with many people who shared interesting stories about this car, what went into the restoration and the man himself. This Buick Model 16 Surrey, from what I've been told, is a one year only body style for the Model 16 Buick. Buicks had surrey bodies (no doors) on other models like the Model 10, but the Surrey body only was on the Model 16 for 1910. They would unbolt the rear seat section and remove the top and convert the Model 16 Surrey into a roadster, for racing, back in the day. She is fast too. The engine is a 4 cylinder 318 Cube engine with 2 jugs of 2 cylinders each. It is rated at 34 horsepower. PLEASE NOTE: The engine used in the restoration is a 1911 or 1912, as it has the spark plugs mounted into the cylinders on an angle, where the plugs on the 1910 engine were horizontal to the cylinders. . The Son of the former owner told me the reason he went with the later engine is that the original engine had the water pump inside of the crankcase, which he disapproved of, because he claimed if it ever leaked, it would ruin the engine with all that water being in there. He choose to use a one or two year later engine, because the water pump is mounted on the outside of the crankcase. It is considered an overhead valve design, however, as in a lot of early brass cars, the valve train is exposed. Quite a sight seeing the push rods, rocker arms and springs dancing to the music. Engine sounds great and even has a factory stock exhaust cut out, that dumps the exhaust out of the pipe ahead of the muffler, giving it a few extra horse power to climb hills. I just listed it with 1000 miles, but don't know how much it actually on the odometer. The former owner also decided to clad the body with aluminum panels, over the wood body and did an amazing job fabricating these panel to result in a razor straight body. Also the four wheels, which resemble wooden spoke wheels, are actually cast aluminum or magnesium. This is what my restorer told me when he had the car for a few months doing all the work I had him do on this car. He said they did that back in the 1950's and up to the 1970's, instead of refabricating new wooden spoke wheels. I can't imagine what it would cost to do that today. Tires are Dunlap and are in wonderful condition, even though older tires. The spare on the side and one other I have, have never been on the ground. They are 34 inches. I like to tour with all my cars and guys I tour with told me this Buick climbed Pikes Peak in 1980. It is a three speed sliding gear transmission, but the pattern is in reverse, being first gear is to the right and down, reverse is to the right and up, second is to the left and up and third is to the left and down. I have had it on a few tours and up to about 55 miles an hour, but still had plenty of pedal to go if I wanted. She drives beautifully. I had my restorer remove every piece of brass, polish and coat everything, so I don't have to do that for many years. Also he installed a distributor ignition and an electric starter. I also had electric bulbs put in the headlamps and turn signals installed with separate lights on the rear of the car. I can't say enough about this car. She is an absolute blast to drive, show off and tour with and is reliable and in wonderful condition mechanically. The car was stored for a few years before I purchased it and when my restorer pulled the engine to examine it inside, he claimed it looked like it had just been rebuilt with new bearing and internals.. The vinyl top is in great shape and even has leather wrapped around the top irons and stitched together. The gorgeous red leather tuffed and diamond patterned seats are beautiful and still soft and plyable. It has a Jones speedometer that is in working condition and a brass plac on the dash that says, " Police notice. This car is equipped with a Jones speedometer. The driver knows his speed. Do not arrest on guesswork." It's funny to read that in todays times, but back then there was no radar gun for the cops to tell how fast you were going. There is also a clock on the dash as well as a Seldon Patient Plate. I never did any reserch to see whether this plate actually was for this exact car, but it is very cool to see one of these historical patient plates on the dash of a period correct car. It currently has a 1910 Porcelen Michigan licence plate registered and on the back. It will only go with the car if a buyer is from Michigan. If not I want $500.00 for it. Here are some extras that will be included in this sale: Reprint of the original owners manual, specification sign for car shows seen in some photos, factory magneto/coil that was removed when it was converted to a distributor ignition, factory transmission case (heavy as can be), transmission gears, rods, and misc. levers including a new machine cut main transmission rod that holds various gears, a new machine cut ring and pinion gear for the rear differential and 4 brass pad locks the former owner used to secure the 4 hood latches. I have to begin downsizing my collection, as I am getting up there in age and am having a difficult time taking care of all of them. You will love her. She always gets more attention than 5 naked ladies at a Moose Lodge Meeting. Call me on my cell phone for any additional information or photos at 248-802-7924 My name is Gary. Car is located in Waterford Michigan, just West of Pontiac. Shipping is the buyers responsibility, but I can help with loading. Lastly, please respect the time and effort involved in posting this ad for my 1910 Buick Model 16 Surrey. Please do not hit the buy it now button, or make any offers, if you are not serious about owning this fabulous brass era car. I require a $2,000. deposit within 48 hours from the buyer, via bank wire. No pay pal. Call my number for banking information. Balance before the car is picked up. I prefer to have the new owner come and pick it up with a trailer himself if at all possible, as most transport drivers are not used to brass era vehicles, but if not able, make your own arrangements with the transport company of your choice.
