1983 Toyota Pickup RN38

Up for your consideration is this classic 1983 Toyota 4x4 Pickup. This is the last year of the muscular “first generation” body style. Vehicle is located in dry Colorado and doesn't have the heavy rust damage found on most of these vintage Toyotas.

The famous Toyota 22R 4-cylinder engine starts and runs like a top. A performance Weber DGEV 32/36 carburator has been installed in place of the problematic factory “emission carb”. This engine also sports a long-tube Heddman Header coupled to larger diameter free flowing exhuast.

The previous owner claims the engine had been recently rebuilt, and I have no reason to doubt this claim. It runs quietly with great oil pressure, no knocking, no visible exhaust smoke, and no oil drips. Oil apprears clean without contamination.

Power is transmitted to the wheels through the optional 5-speed overdrive transmission, and famous Toyota gear driven transfer case. Cruises at a comfortable rpm at 65mph. The front knuckles are not leaking; fresh clean componets in the assembly indicate recent service. New Tom Woods front driveshaft and rear ujoints.

The suspension is lifted about 4-inches to fit oversize 31” tires. This upgrade was done properly using custom spring leaf packs, an Ironman dropped draglink, and a heavy-duty adjustable torque-arm imported from Australia. Sports 4 NEW 31x10.5r15 Dextero All Terrian tires, as well as two factory spares. Cruises and stops straight with no pulling to the sides.

The body and paint present well, however are beginning to show age. There are some rust bubbles beginning on the bed seams, as well as a previous repair on the lower front fenders. No holes or other major damage visible. The paint has small chips and imperfections throughout, but overall the truck still looks great and recieves many complments.

The frame is solid with no rust damage noted. There is a small 12-inch reinforcement welded on the passenger side framerail in front of the rear wheel; it appears professionally done. The cab floors feel solid, the inside of the bed has wear from use, but no rust damage.

Front and rear bumpers are offroad tubular style. Front is equipped with a Smittybilt XRC-8 8,000-pound winch. The winch is not hooked up and condition is unknown.

The interior presents well with a complete dash, fresh carpet, and new door panels. The windows roll up and down smoothly with new rubber wipers. There is a crack in the window of the cluster, as well as some cracking in the center bezel. The seat looks great with a fresh saddle-blanket cover, however the driver side vinyl is cracked underneath.

All of the gages in the optional SR5 cluster function, (speedometer, odometer, trip odometer, tachometer, coolant temperatire, fuel level), as well as gages in the center (voltage, oil pressure). Due to the overtsize tires, the speedometer indicates about 10% (5mph @ 60mph) slower than the vehicle is actually traveling. The heater and all of the controls function properly. Headlights, turn signals, horn, and windshield wipers all function properly.
