Description1951 MG-TD RoadsterListed on behalf of the owner.Located in PORTLAND, OREGON. CHASSIS # 8590.  ENGINE# XPAG644The following description was written by the current owner: "I have owned 130 cars in 60 years and this MG TD is the best original car to pass my way. I'm Senior Analyst for Hagerty Insurance and I wrote the T-Series Buyer's Guide for them. This Roadster is matching-numbers and indicates 64,507 miles. It has extensive history, has no rust or rot and has always been under cover. The paint is the original Ash Green, a 1951-only color with metallic body paint and solid color fenders. It is polished through on areas of the hood and the right rear fender was partially re-painted in 1957. Otherwise original finish throughout. The present canvas top was new in 1957, as was the chrome grille, a Moss Motors accessory."PLEASE SEE PHOTOS WHICH WERE JUST TAKEN FOR THIS LISTING AND SHOW CURRENT CONDITION. "It was bought new in San Francisco in September of 1951. It was purchased at 24,000 miles by the second owner in Portland, Oregon 1954, who sold it in 1955 then bought it back in 1960 with 49,769 miles, keeping the car for the next 53 years, until 2013, with a total then of 62,000 miles. I bought the car in August of 2020 and have spoken twice with the now 91 year-old former long-term owner. He shared stories of the car's history when he owned it and these are included with the car. This car has a "Bermuda Bell" warning bell with foot actuated button on the floorboard that was installed by the first owner. The East German rear spare tire dates from a set fitted in 1960. The current tires on the car are radials and were fitted in 2017 with now about 1,000 miles on them. The side screens are original and the plastic windows are clear - not yellowed. A white tonneau cover is included. The headlights are period Lucas - not reproductions. The spotlights are 1950's Ford units. The car is fitted with turn signals, utilizing the original parking lights. The heater was installed in 1955. The interior is original Biscuit colored leather and leatherette with only minor repairs over the years. The leather is supple and not dried out, with some stains. The seats were covered for the last several years. The car has its original tool roll, jack, starting handle, tire pump and spoons, and grease gun. Also another set of Whitworth tools is included. The generator was rebuilt in the last month and a brand new nine-pole Lucas regulator was fitted from Holden in the UK - NOT a Chinese unit. New brake shoes and hoses are included with the car but the present brakes work well. Other sundry spares, original manuals, import documents and paperwork accompany the car." The original 4 cylinder, 1250cc engine starts easily, runs smoothly with good power and acceleration. 4 speed manual gearbox shift crisply. A real pleasure to drive.PLEASE SEE VIDEO OF ENGINE RUNNING AND CAR DRIVING. If you are looking for an original well-preserved TD with a documented history from new, this is a wonderful car. It would be welcome at shows in the preservation class and certainly gets more interest and comments than many over-restored examples seen on the show field. More than that, it's just a fun car to DRIVE. With the top down on a country road, it is a driving experience unlike any other. A reasonable reserve has been placed on this car. Someone is going to get a bargain. Remember: "They're only original ONCE."WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS WORLDWIDE AND CAN ASSIST WITH SHIPPING ANYWHERE. Thanks for looking and GOOD LUCK.
