Pontiac Transam Firebird 1979

For sale. Pontiac Trans Am Firebird (1979)
This vehicle was a trade in. and was brought in from Ireland. hence the Irish plates - although it was a UK Reg car before that. and before that Florida! 
We have submitted it for MOT which it passed on 04/12/2013. so has a year. No tax. UK plates have been applied for and it will be sold with new plates fitted. on a UK "T" registration. with all paperwork in place. I believe it will also come with a fresh 6 months tax as required by DVLA when re registering an imported vehicle. so it will be legal to drive away if you buy it.
So. to the Firebird. We took this in part exchange. as we liked the look of it. and fancied a play with an American muscle car. made famous in Smokey and the bandit. We particularly liked it as it looks exactly like the famous one. with T bar roof and decals etc etc.  
When it came in it was running and driving well(it had been a regularly used car by a guy in Dublin) but there were little fettling jobs needed. mostly to trim etc. to get it looking as it does now. Once we got all the jobs done we could to make it presentable we took it for MOT. that's when we experienced the awesomely fun drive of this thing.  If you've never driven one before (unlikely as there are so few around) they are like nothing else! They are so powerful. and with that long wheel base (don't buy this if you have a small garage because it won't go in) they are super easy to drift. one dab of the throttle and you can put the back end wherever you like. and it is so controllable. it flatters any driver. making them look like a drift genius!!!! It sounds fab too. All very cool.
So. it's rare. it's great fun.  and it's cool.
BUT.
It is an old car. we appreciate it looks great. and it does. it drives well too (power steering squeals on full lock). but it is over 30 years old and is not perfect. The interior looks much cooler with the leather look interior rather than lesser models that have fabric interiors. and has a quicksilver shift on the auto box which looks nice. but there are a few things that don't work so well. the heater fan doesn't blow. and the rev counter is defunct. Everything needed for MOT works. and the electric windows do too. Stereo not tested so sold as not working too. I've also not tried the cruise control.  On the outside. the bodywork looks good. but i am told if you are an expert and know where to look it's both had work. and has a few minor bits missing or modified. I'm not an expert. but have taken lots of photos so you can make up your own mind. It looks fine to me. and just what you would expect from an unrestored . but well kept classic. The bits I know about on the outside that could do with work are. the drivers door needs a bit of a lift to make it close properly - I use the handle. There is a crack in the left rear brake light. and there's a bulb out on a side repeater on the front indicator. The rear boot doesn't stay open on it's own. there may be other things I've missed and viewing is recommended. I am obviously NOT a Trans Am specialist. Ps i've read this back to myself and talked it down too much. there's no rust on arches or anything like that. and although the photos don't show it. the paintwork is good right down to the sill bottoms !
