Model History
. Changes for the 1968 model increased safety with a two-spoke energy-absorbing steering wheel. along with newly introduced shoulder belts. Other changes included front and rear side markers. "FORD" lettering removed from hood. rearview mirror moved from frame to windshield. a 302 cu in (4. 9 L) V8 engine was now available. and C-Stripe graphics were added. The California Special Mustang. or GT/CS. was visually based on the Shelby model and was only sold in Western states. Its sister. the 'High Country Special'. was sold in Denver. Colorado. While the GT/CS was only available as a coupe. the 'High Country Special' model was available in fastback and convertible configurations during the 1966 and 1967 model years. and as a coupe for 1968. The Mustang fastback gained popular culture status when used in the crime thriller Bullitt (1968). Lt. Frank Bullitt. played by actor Steve McQueen. drove a modified Highland Green 1968 Mustang GT fastback with 390 cu in (6. 4 L) 4V engine. chasing two hitmen in a black 1968 Dodge Charger in the film's car chase through the streets of San Francisco.

The iconic 68 Mustang GT is a much sort after car with prices both here and in the States going skyward.
We have for sale a very clean rust free example that ticks all the boxes.
The bodywork and paintwork are very very good with no rust issues whatsoever. The underside is immaculate.
Wheel and tyre combo are just perfect for the car contrasting against the Wimbledon White paintwork.
The original cream interior is fantastic in condition and feel of the sixties
The engine is to die for . the last owner of 7 years spent a fortune with a Nationally known expert builder.
In the 7 years of his ownership the mot history shows only approx. 6500 miles being covered.
The rest of the mechanics are also all sorted with full disc brakes. new rack and pinion sterring. new stainless exhaust . tc etc. There is nothing left to do other than put your own stamp on it. clean and enjoy. This car is not a trailer queen it is to be driven and stand proud at any show.
This is not a tarted up recent import with a tired engine etc. The last owner was very sad to see it go and when his circumstances change he would want to buy it back. Alot of time. effort and money has created this beautful 68 fastback which really is the one to have .

Engine & Transmission

The engine in this GT Mustang whilst not the original powerplant is fab. Built by a very well known V8 engine builder it is a Ford 351 cubic inch base then bored and stroked to make it 408 cubic inch motor. The whole rotating assembly is fully balanced. it has a forged stroker crank. new pistons. h/v oil pump. double roller timing chain assembly. Edlebrock ally heads with roller rockers and sure locks. full MSD electronic ignition etc etc. Since build this engine is still not run in it has covered approx 300 miles. The previous owner states he spent circa 15k on this build and some other modifications. We have photos and video of this engine being built and of course the new owner can also speak to the builder. The superb engine note is to die for and is coming through a new full stainless exhaust. There is a brand new "Flaming River" rack and pinion steering which is a delight and she has been converted to front disc brake status. All in all very very nice 15k well spent we think.

Magnum 500 chrome rosstyles which are in excellent condition shod with full matching nearly new radials.
Exterior
The Wimbledon White paintwork is very good throughout there are no signs of rust. blistering etc anywhere. The Underside of the car is immaculate. All the brightwork is excellent all round. All light lenses and Glass etc are 1st class. The GT hood and all GT badging etc. are correct.
Interior & Equipment
The interior is lovely and really takes you back to those 60's muscle car days. The interior panels. seats etc have all been refurbed and look 1st class. The carpets etc are in very good condition. All the gauges work as they should although the fuel gauge is not 100 percent accurate. The door panels are as new.
