1970 VOLVO AMAZON 131 RALLY PREPARED 2 DOOR COUPE A rare opportunity to own a Historic Rally prepared Volvo Amazon. Amazons are sought after for rallying due to their near 50:50 weight distribution giving predictable handling; the availability of spares at reasonable cost; legendary build quality and above all - their reliability driven by the bullet-proof B20 engine. This – my 3rd rally Amazon - has been round Silverstone, Abbeville, competed on The Hughes, East Anglian and many, many more. Now could do with some patching to bring it back to its former glory. Sadly, my 2nd bout of Covid has left me with the long version and barely enough energy to make a cup of tea. So, with a heavy heart, here she is: Engine: 2 litre B20B engine and box, twin SU carbs on modified alloy inlet manifold and four branch exhaust manifold leading to big bore Simons exhaust system. Engine runs sweetly, box good. Alloy sump guard. Suspension: – Lowered 25mm all round with progressive springs and running Bilsteins all round. The car has done probably 10 mainly road navigation events since build. Inside: Safety Devices homologated full bolt-in roll cage. Sparco harnesses. OMP FIA homologation seats. Ralloy racing fuel tank and internal fuel supply pipes. Splash filler and body mounted filler too which requires connection, if needed.Brantz International 2 pro rallymeter and Brantz V2 timer, both with remotes. Axle: – Axle is a well built LSD from the quickest Amazon which was out there KWD 383D have a look at it on the Wyedean! Wheels and tyres: – Fab set of unmarked Minilite style alloys running nearly new fabulous Yokohama W drive tyres.Bad bits: Needs each corner of the sills welded around the jacking points. Hole in passenger floor, holes in outriggers. There are signs of bubbling under the windscreen (common fault). Passenger door kissed a hedge so she is supplied with a good replacement door. Drivers door has corrosion lower down too. Front wings -corrosion around headlamps. Boot lower lip corroded but supplied with a lightweight fibreglass replacement bootlid. Overall, a few days welding underneath should do the job. These cars are easy to drive and maintain and are ideal for local navigation rallies all the way up to International Historic events. MOT exempt; Tax exempt; ULEZ exempt and my comprehensive insurance with Adrian Flux is only £130 p.a. That's cheap motoring! This is a running, driving Amazon which you can enjoy tomorrow but deserves some workshop time. I will not add up the amount spent so far, but this represents extremely good value! With good rally spec Amazons heading towards £30,000, there is plenty of scope to improve this car, have a lot of fun and maybe even come out with a profit! ‘How many left' website shows only 98 131's still on the UK roads with 66 on SORN. Prices rising rapidly.In answer to many questions... My 17 year old daughter has been trying it around the Eppynt this weekend- Wales rally GB - stages. The car ran well but the carbs need balancing and there is the occasional misfire which I suspect could be plugs. I will include a new set of Champions/NGK's. The brakes are rubbish but I also have a new set of pads which I will put in the car. No energy to change them myself, I'm afraid. For those reasons you should look at trailering it home. As always, I heartily recommend viewing before hitting that button - one man's stew and dumplings is another man's tripe and onions!
