This is a unique opportunity for someone wanting or intending to restore a 1971 MGB Roadster, and benefit from most of the strip-down phase being already carried out, with full photographic record and all items bagged, tagged, and catalogued, and £3k worth of best available quality, new or replacement parts already purchased by myself.

Background: I bought the car for £5k in Feb 2020 from a classic car dealer, as a perfectly drive-able, Flame Red ‘71 Roadster, in 7/10 overall condition, with the intention of restoring it myself to a show-condition example during the week, on a “rolling restoration” basis, and drives around the Cotswolds at weekends. Being a mechanical Engineer, this was an ideal way to transform something to it's former glory, and at the same time, keep me occupied whilst dealing with a health issue.

In March 2020 Covid came along, which meant that the “rolling” aspect of the restoration evaporated as I went into Shielding. To keep occupied I progressed the strip-down and cataloguing and purchasing of new parts required to bring it up the the standard I was aiming for. Key items are listed below to give you an indication of items already purchased, but a detailed spreadsheet is available for serious buyers, listing each item, price paid, and supplier. Value of parts purchased stands at £3k, hence I am now just looking to recover my outlay as my illness is such that I do not have the energy or mobility to complete the restoration to the standard or timescale I would like, and have made very little progress in the last 12 months. It is time to face up to reality and hand the baton to someone with a similar mind-set to myself, who enjoys the restoration and transformation process as much, if not more than the driving itself. That person will appreciate that £5k is a good indication that the original vehicle was a very good starting point, and the £3k worth of parts purchased to date are costs that anyone with the ambition of restoring a classic car would face.

New repair panels such as outer sills have been purchased to improve the quality of the panel alignment, rather than being corroded, so the amount of welding required largely depends on the standard the new owner would like to achieve. The only welding required to address any corrosion is half of one castle rail, and the n/s wing to inner wing mounting flange. I have purchased and planned to replace both castle rails. The 5- Bearing engine is ready to lift out as I intended to make the engine bay “show quality”. Prop shaft is already removed. All fluids are drained.
